Environmental / Regulatory Advisor (Intermediate)

- Pay Rate: $80-$90/hour, depending on experience

- Contract Length: 12 months (Onsite)

- Location: Edmonton, AB T6P 0E5

Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

Overview

Our client is seeking an Environmental/Regulatory Advisor (Intermediate) to support the Strathcona Refinery in Edmonton, Alberta. This role covers a senior environmental leadership position that will be vacant for approximately one year, working alongside the site's environmental team to provide technical support to operating units on environmental issues, regulatory compliance, and applicable legislation. The advisor will work closely with the site's two governing regulators, Alberta Workplace and Protected Areas (AEPA) as the primary regulator and the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) as the secondary regulator and will play a key role in the site's Regulatory Compliance Assessment (RCA), scheduled for September.

This is a fixed-term assignment targeting an October 5 start, though an earlier start is possible for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

- Provide ongoing technical support to the operating unit on environmental issues, regulatory compliance, and applicable legislation, with particular focus on Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA) and Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) requirements.

- Support the site's Regulatory Compliance Assessment (RCA) process, including follow-up actions expected from the assessment scheduled for September.

- Review new and revised legislation and update internal management systems and standards accordingly.





- Develop and implement environmental standards and management systems across the site.

- Support quality assurance and quality control reviews of site regulatory compliance documentation.

- Lead and complete environmental management projects or improvement opportunities, including developing new management systems, guidelines, or tools.

- Support environmental performance reporting with accuracy and timeliness, in line with regulatory and license approval requirements.

- Support day-to-day environmental protection and compliance work across one or more program areas, including ecology, spill prevention and response, water management, waste management, and air emissions.

- Support priority regulatory programs, including dam and canal safety legislation and Elder/BOC-related regulatory requirements.

- Update site manuals and documentation as required.

- Partner with other site environmental advisors in a team-based environment, flexing to support additional program areas as business needs arise.

- Work independently to manage workload while coordinating regularly with the environmental leadership team.

Required Qualifications

- University degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field (equivalent, demonstrated experience considered).

- 5 to 10 years of environmental or regulatory experience, ideally within the oil and gas industry.

- Working knowledge of Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA)



and Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) requirements.

- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage workload with minimal day-to-day oversight.

- Valid driver's license and comfort operating a pickup truck through active industrial process areas.

- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test required for refinery site access.

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous experience with the client or familiarity with its work processes.

- Experience with permit approval processes.

- Familiarity with SAP.
