Job Overview
ESL Teachers – 24-Week Contracts & Casual Substitute Opportunities
CEL Vancouver is a well-established English language school in the heart of downtown Vancouver. For over 20 years, we have welcomed students from around the world and built a reputation for delivering high-quality English language programs in a supportive and professional environment.
We are currently recruiting enthusiastic and professional ESL teachers for an exciting group of long-term student arrivals expected from mid-October 2026 (dates to be confirmed).
24-Week Teaching Opportunities
We are seeking several teachers who are available to commit to approximately 24 weeks of guaranteed teaching.
Teaching schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- 8:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (with 15 minute break)
- 20 teaching hours per week
These positions will be offered as ongoing employment, with the opportunity for continued work beyond the initial 24-week period, subject to enrolment.

Casual / Substitute Teachers
We are also looking to expand our pool of reliable substitute teachers who are available to cover holidays, illness and other short-term absences during the same morning teaching schedule.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, student-centred English language lessons.
- Plan and prepare lessons that meet course objectives.
- Create a positive, supportive classroom environment.
- Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback.
- Maintain accurate attendance and academic records.
- Work collaboratively with the academic team to provide an excellent student experience.
Essential Requirements
- University degree.
- TESL Canada-recognized certificate including a minimum 20-hour supervised practicum.
- Previous ESL teaching experience, preferably with adult learners.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- A professional, reliable and flexible approach.
- Eligibility to work in Canada.
- Currently based in the Vancouver area.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching English to non-native speakers, with a focus on creating an engaging and supportive learning environment. This role involves working with students of various ages and backgrounds, helping them improve their English language skills for academic, professional, or personal growth.Currently,
we are looking for casual teachers to cover for holidays and illness.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of students learning English as a second language.
Create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and fosters a love for learning.
Utilize various teaching methods and resources to enhance language acquisition, including interactive activities, multimedia tools, and real-life scenarios.
Assess student progress through regular evaluations and provide constructive feedback to help them achieve their language goals.
Collaborate with other educators and staff to support the overall educational mission of the institution.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and achievements.
Requirements:
Proven experience in teaching or tutoring English as a second language, preferably with young adults.
Solid classroom management skills and the ability to engage students effectively.
A background in education or related field is preferred
Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
Familiarity with different cultural backgrounds and sensitivity to the needs of ESL learners.
