Position: Facility Operator Vacancies: Up to 2 Job Type: Casual Department: Leisure Services Reports to: Manager, Recreation Pay Type: Hourly Starting Rate: $33.69 Grid Line: EA3 Work Location: Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex Job Posting Date: July 21, 2026 Job Closing Date: Posting will remain open until filled General Accountability: Facility Operators perform custodial and light maintenance at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex (BSRC) and support the safe, effective operation of arena, aquatics, fieldhouse, and facility spaces to provide a clean, safe, and functional environment for all patrons. The incumbent must provide exceptional service to customers and internal partners and demonstrate initiative toward achieving organizational results and performance excellence.
Duties: Maintain a clean and safe facility and grounds at all times.
Provide professional and responsive customer service to internal and external customers, facility users, and stakeholders.
Set up, take down, receive and properly store recreation equipment for programs, activities, and events including facility conversions such as ice to dry floor and event configurations
Operate tools and equipment associated with facility operations, including scissor lift, floor scrubbers, hand tools, ice edgers and maintenance equipment.
Operate and maintain an ice resurfacer.
Perform ice installation, maintenance and removal during the arenas operating season.
Monitor ice conditions and make adjustments to maintain safe and consistent playing surfaces
Complete daily aquatics maintenance tasks including water testing, chemical adjustments, backwashing,
and minor troubleshooting to maintain safe and balanced water conditions.
Monitor aquatic facility and spray park equipment and systems using control check sheets to support proper and continuous operation, and respond to or escalate water quality or equipment concerns in accordance with established procedures.
Maintain required operational records and logs related to water quality, chemical usage, and system performance.
Identify irregularities in aquatics system performance and take appropriate action within the scope of the role or escalate as required.
Assist in maintaining continuous operation of aquatics systems by responding to operational issues or escalating concerns as required.
Ensure safety and security of the facility operations through ongoing awareness, inspection and recommendations for corrective action.
Contribute and adhere to Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Participate in the established Health and Safety program including inspections, meetings, and training.
Participate within the emergency on-call list in accordance with established rotation and response expectations
Work weekday, evenings, and weekend shift work.
Record completed tasks, deficiencies, and maintenance concerns using established logs
Work in all weather conditions.
Assist to train and orient new staff.
Monitor supply levels and notify appropriate staff when replenishment is required
Perform basic maintenance and repair on equipment applicable to this position, and escalate other maintenance issues to be addressed as required.
Follow maintenance programs, procedures, checklists and schedules set by the Town.
Identify and report unusual equipment performance, facility issues, or safety concerns
Work cooperatively with other facility staff and collaborate with other departments to deliver Recreation Services.
Handle and store chemicals in accordance with WHMIS and facility procedures Communicate relevant operational information to incoming staff to ensure continuity between shifts
This is an active role which requires walking, standing and lifting up to 50lbs.
Participate in required corporate training.
Any other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications: 18 years of age.
1 year experience in Recreation Facility Operations preferred.
Previous experience in Pool operations preferred
Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully completed AARFP Arena Operator Level 1 and AARFP Pool Operator 1 (candidates without these qualifications will be required to obtain them at the first chance offered by AARFP after start date); ability to complete Arena Operator Level 2.
Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.
Ability to obtain the following certifications: WHMIS certification.

Intermediate First Aid
Fit Testing Knowledge in Alberta Public Swimming Pool Regulations considered an asset
Ability to understand and comprehend verbal & written instructions.
Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Experience in arena maintenance and ice resurface operation is an asset.
Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform the work of this position Additional Desirable Knowledge &
Skills: Training/courses or certifications in the areas of arena equipment operation
Other trade skills relevant to building maintenance such as mechanics or carpentry
Building Maintenance Certificate
