Haida Child & Family is a Haida-led organization providing culturally appropriate wrap around services to Haida children and families.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Community Connections, the Family Preservation Manager will lead and supervise the Gaw Tlagée Old Massett and HlGaagilda Skidegate teams of Family Preservation Workers (FPW) by providing hands-on guidance and fostering culturally grounded and holistic supports for Haida children and families. The Manager will oversee day-to-day operations, provide coaching and mentorship, coordinate programming, conduct case reviews, and ensure compliance with Haida Child & Family (HCF) standards and reporting requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Supervision
- Provide day-to-day program management, ensuring smooth operations and alignment with Agency goals.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and performance management to FPW’s.
- Promote a trauma-informed, strengths-based practice across the team.
- Facilitate regular team meetings and case reviews.
- Support staff in developing integrated client service plans and maintaining high standards of practice.
- Address performance issues and foster professional growth through mentorship.
Human Resources
- Lead recruitment for Family Preservation Workers, including developing job postings, screening applicants, interviewing, and making hiring recommendations to the Director of Community Connections.
- Oversee onboarding and orientation for new team members.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
- Develop and implement career development plans for staff.
- Manage employee relations issues in accordance with Agency policies and procedures.
Program Coordination
- Oversee the planning and delivery of family preservation programs, including parenting classes, cultural activities, life skills training, and Family Group Conferencing.
- Support community engagement and inter-agency coordination to enhance family wellness.
- Ensure services are strength-based and aligned with Haida values and wraparound principles.
- Monitor program effectiveness and implement improvements as needed.
Administrative & Reporting
- Maintain accurate program and client records, ensuring confidentiality.
- Prepare monthly and annual reports for the Director of Community Connections.
- Assist with budgeting and resource allocation for family preservation programs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Knowledge of Haida culture, history and the implications of colonization for Indigenous children, youth, families and communities
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Education, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in child and family services, with experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
- An equivalent combination of education, lived experience, and relevant work experience will be considered.

- Working knowledge of related theories, principles and techniques in family preservation/reunification services.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team, including experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing staff.
- Working knowledge of federal, provincial and local organizations mandated to provide health, counseling and child and family services, along with experience in program funding and eligibility requirements.
- Strong understanding of wraparound service models and integrated case management.
- Proven skills in performance management, conflict resolution, and fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.
- Computer literacy for Microsoft Word, Excel, and other relevant software.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Applicant must successfully undergo a Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitive information with discretion.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Travel between communities will be required.
- Monday to Friday schedule (35-hour week) but flexibility is needed from time to time based on Agency needs, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Solicitor General Criminal Records Check.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a BC Driver’s License.
