Financial Controller – Construction Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time Ready to Own the Finance Function? Are you a CPA working in construction accounting who is ready for more ownership? Our client, an established General Contractor in Mississauga , is looking for a Financial Controller to lead its accounting function and become a key financial partner to its construction and executive teams. This isn’t a role where you’ll be buried several layers deep in a large finance department. You’ll have visibility, autonomy and direct exposure to senior leadership while working closely with Project Managers, Estimators and construction leaders to understand what’s happening across projects — and what the numbers are telling the business.
As Controller, you’ll take responsibility for the company’s day‑to‑day financial operations and project accounting, including: Managing budgeting, forecasting and cash flow Reviewing project performance, margins and profitability Partnering with Project Managers and Estimators to improve financial visibility across projects Overseeing AP, AR,
payroll and general accounting Supporting and developing the Project Accountant Maintaining strong financial controls and reporting processes Providing financial insight to senior leadership to support business decisions We’re interested in experienced construction accounting professionals who have the technical foundation and leadership ability to take ownership of the function. CPA designation ~6+ years of progressive accounting experience ~ Accounting experience within construction or General Contracting ~ Robust knowledge of job costing, WIP and EAC/project forecasting ~ Experience partnering with Project Managers and/or operational teams ~ Advanced Excel skills ~ Experience working with accounting/ERP systems ~ The confidence to challenge numbers, ask questions and communicate financial information to non‑finance leaders An Accounting or Finance Manager in construction who is ready to own the full finance function A highly experienced Senior Accountant already handling WIP, job costing and project reporting who is ready to step into leadership What matters most is that you understand construction accounting beyond the month-end close and can use financial information to help operational leaders make better project decisions.
