Position title: Food Bank Assistant Coordinator - Community Engagement

Department: Student Services

Supervisor: Food Bank Program Manager

Employee status: Term, Appointed

Hours Per Week: 15

Salary / Wage: $21.17 per hour

Anticipated Start Date: August 17, 2026 Description The AMS Services’ main mandate is to provide resources, services, and support that respond to the evolving needs of UBC students and contribute to their overall well-being. Each AMS Service is led by a Program Manager or Coordinator and, where applicable, supported by one or more Assistant Coordinators.

Assistant

Coordinators report directly to their Service supervisor and work collaboratively with the larger AMS Services team. The AMS Food Bank provides free emergency food support to UBC students with a valid UBC card. In addition to food distribution, the AMS Food Bank delivers programs, events, and initiatives that promote food security awareness, reduce barriers to accessing nutritious food, and strengthen community connections across campus.

The Food Bank Assistant

Coordinator – Community Engagement leads the planning and coordination of the AMS Food Bank’s events, supports fundraising initiatives, builds relationships with campus and community partners, and increases awareness of the AMS Food Bank and its services.

Duties and Responsibilities: Plan and coordinate community engagement initiatives that promote the AMS Food Bank and increase student awareness of food insecurity

Organize Food Bank events, workshops, food drives, and fundraising campaigns in collaboration with staff, volunteers, and campus partners

Represent the AMS Food Bank at campus events, outreach opportunities, and collaborative initiatives with student groups and community organizations





Serve as the primary point of contact for individuals and groups interested in organizing third-party fundraisers or community initiatives benefiting the Food Bank

Develop and maintain partnerships with campus and community organizations that support the Food Bank's mission

Coordinate fundraising initiatives, including donor campaigns, corporate donations, and sponsorship opportunities

Develop sponsorship proposals and recognition materials in collaboration with the Senior Manager, Student Services

Coordinate sponsorship communications and ensure sponsorship agreements and promotional commitments are fulfilled

Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners

Prepare monthly donor impact reports highlighting the outcomes and impact of the AMS Food Bank in collaboration with the Food Bank team

Support the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of volunteers for community engagement initiatives

Collaborate with the Food Bank team and Volunteer Team Leads to plan and deliver community engagement activities and special projects

Attend weekly Food Bank team meetings and one-on-one meetings with the Food Bank Program Manager

Support the day-to-day operations of the AMS Food Bank, including food distribution, donated food pick-ups, and other operational activities as required

Maintain accurate records and documentation related to community engagement initiatives, fundraising activities, partnerships, and sponsorships

Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Bank Program Manager

Work within the AMS mission, policies,



and values to support the successful operation of the AMS Food Bank Qualifications: Required Must be a currently registered student at UBC Vancouver or one of its affiliated colleges.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently. Solid organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to safely lift and transport food donations between vehicles, the Food Bank, and storage areas.

Valid

Class 5 driver's license and ability to operate a Food Bank vehicle for donation pickups. Demonstrated sensitivity, professionalism, and respect when working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.

Must have general availability during a portion of Food Bank operation days.

Preferred Experience planning or coordinating events, community engagement initiatives, or volunteer programs.

Experience with fundraising, sponsorship development, donor relations, or partnership building. Knowledge of food insecurity, community food programs, or the non-profit sector is considered an asset.

Eligibility: Must be a currently enrolled student at UBC Vancouver eligible for the Work Learn program.
