Position Summary
Reporting to the Child Care Manager, the Child Care Worker is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young children. This role supports children’s learning and development by planning and leading individual and group activities that encourage social interaction and age‑appropriate skill development.
The Child Care
Worker prepares and serves meals, maintains accurate attendance and activity records, and ensures children’s hygiene, welfare, and safety at all times. As a member of the Children’s House team, the Child Care Worker collaborates with other staff to plan and implement program activities and contributes to a positive, respectful, and supportive work environment for children, parents, and colleagues. Responsibilities Program planning and preparation of work prior to daily activities (e.g. Field trips and themes of the month). Plans and organizes traditional First Nations activities. Plans, organizes and leads daily activities designed to stimulate the intellectual, physical and emotional growth of the children.
Encourages cooperation and participation of all children; strives to create a happy, caring, creative and respectful environment. Encourages open communication with parents concerning the needs, progress and problems of their children. Maintains constant supervision of all indoor and outdoor activities.
Prepares snacks that meet the standards of the Canada Food Guide, and ensures a clean and safe environment. Changes diapers, as required. Maintains children’s attendance records. Implements proper safety and hygiene practices, reports any unsafe or faulty equipment to the Manager, Child Care.
Participates in training and development sessions, attends staff meetings; and Performs other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND ABILITIES Early Childhood Educator Certificate, and Infant/Toddler Certificate (as needed). 1-2 years’ experience in a childcare setting; or an equivalent combination of skill, knowledge and experience.
Early Childhood Education
License. Infant/Toddler License as needed.
Special
Needs license is an asset.
Childcare First
Aid/CPR Certification.
Food Protected
Certificate or willing to acquire certification. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Proven ability to establish supportive relationships with children and parents and other staff. Punctual and reliable. Flexible, committed and enthusiastic. Must be able to lift and carry children as required. Ability to use tact and good judgement in dealing with sensitive and complex issues. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Working Conditions Work is primarily performed in a childcare setting, Monday to Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Flexibility between shift times is required, which may include the following schedules: 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; 8:15 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.; 8:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.; 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Attendance for off-site field trips is required.
