Position Title: Director Benefits & Payroll

Role Summary:
The Director, Advantages and Payroll is accountable for the strategic direction of the Companies Payroll and Benefit’s administration. This role is responsible for leading the timely and accurate Payroll and Benefit’s processing for approximately 18,000 employees Nationally across all Provinces in Canada.

The ideal candidate is
- A strategic and visionary individual who will lead our organization’s Payroll and Benefits administration into the future; with a focus on process efficiencies and a continuous improvement mindset
- Detailed oriented with exceptional attention to detail to ensure that deliverables are accurate and complete
- Collaborative with our Operations, HR and Finance teams in driving the organization forward;
- Well versed in HR and Accounting principles as it relates to payroll and benefits
- A positive and dedicated leader who is passionate about team building, process improvement, operational effectiveness and a service orientated approach
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership to the payroll and benefits team.
- Lead the payroll and benefits team activities and ensures compliance and alignment of all activities with strategic operational goals, overseeing the full cycle of payroll and benefits for multiple entities to produce accurate payroll and benefits utilizing PeopleSoft.
- Provide guidance to the team to investigate and resolve issues promptly. Ensures compliance with all federal and provincial boards.
- Proactively identify opportunities to lead, streamline and transform processes, socialize any changes and lead through the changes across the organization.
- Lead and participate in ongoing payroll, benefits and HR related projects and initiatives
- Liaise with the IT Team on: Impacts and testing of new tax upgrade releases and enhancements to PeopleSoft application change requirements.
- Coach and manage direct reports, who in turn manage teams under them. This includes performance appraisals, succession planning, training, and career development.
- Review compensation related account reconciliations
- Share Plan Administration for a Privately held Company.
- Interpret union collective agreements and determine payroll and benefit requirements including system changes.
- Third-party remittances to all external boards and benefit carriers.
- Analyze payroll, benefits and general ledger accounts to find inconsistencies and ensure compliance and prepare correcting journal entries.
- Lead payroll year end processes, annual reconciliation, and all associated reporting with T4s, RL1, T4As, T2200s and TP64s.
- Provide oversight and assist with the training and rollout of payroll and benefits to new branches/entities.
- Maintain and standardize all payroll and benefit procedures and ensure updates and training are conducted as needed.
- Run or modify reports to analyze payroll and benefits to ensure the accuracy of payroll and benefits processes and controls.
- Manage the distribution of workload within the payroll and benefit groups to ensure effective and efficient workflow operations.

Salary Range:
Competitive Based on Experience plus Bonus (20%)
Requirements:
- University degree, preferable with a degree in Business or HR
- CPM Designation with the Canadian Payroll Association
- Project management, process transformation background is an asset
- 8+ years recent experience as a Director or Senior Manager in the Payroll and Benefits related fields. 5+ years of people management and ideally 2+ years managing people leaders
- 5+ years of project management experience.
- 5+ years of accounting experience on the payroll and benefits side, including payroll related account reconciliations.
- 3+ Years of experience in Employee Share Plan Administration for a Private Company.
- Healthcare industry dealing with multiple pay cycles, provinces and significant volume is an asset
- CEBS Certification an asset
- Bilingual (French/English) an asset
- Excellent time management skills, thinking ahead to deliverables and getting all stakeholders lined up for team to deliver on deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail, time management skills, ability to multi-task and maintain a high level of productivity in a deadline-driven environment.
- Exceptional collaboration (internal and external) and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment, including communication skills both written and oral. Ability to be a go getter and get things done.
- Ability to be an “out of box” thinker and a strategic thinker.
- Working knowledge of MS Excel (Pivot Tables, V Look ups) Power Point, Word and Visio.
- Exhibits confidence in presenting to leadership on issues and has the influence to drive change
- Experience in PeopleSoft HR preferred
