As a Lead Engine Programmer , you are responsible for defining, building, and guiding the core Unreal Engine–based systems that underpin gameplay, rendering, physics, tools, and pipelines on an AAA title.
You provide technical leadership for engine architecture and low‑level systems while collaborating closely with Gameplay, Rendering, Tools, Pipeline, and Production to ensure Unreal Engine is extended, optimized, and maintained to meet project needs.
You balance hands‑on development with mentorship, system ownership, and long‑term technical direction. Lead the design and implementation of core Unreal Engine systems, frameworks, and engine‑level architecture. Define and maintain engine standards for performance, stability, scalability, and maintainability within Unreal Engine.
Provide technical leadership and hands‑on development for complex engine features and cross‑cutting Unreal systems. Collaborate with other engineering leads to ensure Unreal Engine systems support gameplay, tools, pipeline, and content workflows. Mentor and support engine programmers through code reviews, technical guidance, and best‑practice Unreal development.
Oversee engine performance, memory usage, and platform‑specific constraints within Unreal Engine. Establish coding standards, documentation practices, and debugging workflows for Unreal Engine development. Support production by identifying technical risks, estimating scope, and planning Unreal Engine evolution across milestones.
Guide Unreal
Engine upgrades, custom engine changes, and long‑term technology decisions. Stay current with Unreal Engine advancements, engine architecture trends, and low‑level performance techniques. Expert proficiency in C++, with extensive experience developing low‑level engine or systems code in Unreal Engine.
At least 8+ years of professional experience in game programming, with shipped AAA titles using Unreal Engine. Deep, hands‑on experience working with Unreal Engine at the engine‑systems level. Robust understanding of Unreal Engine subsystems such as rendering, memory management, threading, streaming, and platform abstraction.
Experience with version control systems such as Perforce or Git. Strong understanding of gameplay and content pipeline requirements from an Unreal Engine perspective. A passion for building scalable, high‑performance engine technology.
