SUMMARY The Operations Float position coordinates loads, drivers, deliveries, and pick-ups in the Baden service area. They are required to be familiar with all traffic and dispatch functions within the Terminal.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible to assist in the daily dispatch of all local trucks and linehauls.
When necessary, assist with sticking pro-bills onto bills before keying them in. (scanning procedures)
Photocopy bills when required. Work with Dock Supervisor/ Operation Manager and shift Foremen when required.
Enter OS&D;’s into Erb’s computer system.
Assist afternoon dispatch by planning late day pickups and truck loads. Plan next day equipment needs – Toronto direct loads, pickup coverage for TL & LTL throughout the terminal service area.
Create and send out ‘shift notes’ outlining needs & instruction for next day.
Answer phones and assist when possible.
Required to provide vacation coverage for dispatch, OS&D;, scanning and check-in staff.
All other duties as required REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS Excellent organizational and planning abilities.
Computer dispatch experience is required.
Ability to maintain composure when under pressure and meet deadlines.
Solid communication skills are required in order to provide quality customer service.
Ability to delegate work to drivers while following company policies and protocol.
Teamwork, flexibility, and a positive attitude are crucial.
Experience working with KPI reporting preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS Employee will cover a variety of operational positions, including dispatch and administrative functions.
Salaried position based on 40 hours per week.
Start times will change as coverage is required (I.e. vacation, sickness, holidays, etc.)
