Hennessy Collective is partnering with a well-established Canadian manufacturing client to recruit an experienced Health & Safety Manager.
This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned health and safety professional to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs across two Canadian manufacturing facilities. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, you will serve as a key member of the leadership team, driving a proactive safety culture while ensuring compliance with provincial and federal health and safety legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all health and safety initiatives across manufacturing facilities in Cornwall, Ontario and Lachine, Quebec.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with applicable health and safety legislation, monitoring regulatory changes and recommending improvements as required.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve corporate health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Champion programs focused on injury prevention, risk reduction, and continuous safety improvement.
- Lead Industrial Hygiene initiatives, including hazard communication, exposure monitoring, radiation safety, incident investigations, and related compliance programs.
- Partner with Joint Health & Safety Committees and provide leadership to supervisors and employees on health and safety best practices.
- Deliver training and communications related to WHMIS, Lockout/Tagout, Working at Heights, First Aid, Fire Safety, and other legislative requirements.
- Analyze incident trends, identify areas of risk, and develop corrective action plans to improve overall safety performance.
- Coordinate facility audits, establish audit standards, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Prepare regular health and safety reports and recommendations for senior leadership.
- Manage all WSIB claims, including return-to-work coordination and appeal hearings when required.
- Liaise with external regulatory agencies including the Ministry of Labour, WSIB, CNESST, and other governing bodies.
- Coach, mentor, and support leaders across the organization in fostering a strong safety-first culture.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline preferred.
- CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) and/or CHSC (Certified Health & Safety Consultant) designation is considered a strong asset.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive Health & Safety leadership experience.
- Previous experience within a unionized manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of Ontario health and safety legislation; Quebec legislative knowledge is an asset.
- Demonstrated success implementing and improving health and safety management systems.
- Robust experience managing WSIB claims and return-to-work programs.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, coaching, and leadership skills.
- Highly analytical with the ability to identify trends, assess risk, and develop practical solutions.
- Authorized to work in Canada.
