Position Summary The Field Service Technician – Heavy equipment, diagnoses problems, performs repairs, and provides preventative maintenance service on material handling equipment at a customer’s site.
Specific Accountabilities
Performs repairs and services on various types of material handling equipment and its components including heavy duty forklifts, yard tractors, container handlers & other mobile material handling equipment.
Performs preventative maintenance at prescribed intervals of time and repairs on various types of material handling equipment including heavy duty forklifts, yard tractors, container handlers.
Sound knowledge of utilizing electronic manuals, use of digital voltage meters and applicable diagnostic software for repairing/servicing of material handling equipment
Sound knowledge of electrical and hydraulic diagnostics
Uses instruction manuals, wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics to diagnose components and system failures.
Ensures work performed is verified and the truck returned to the customer clean and operational.
Ensures customer work area is clean and free of debris, oil, and grease.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Be able to self-manage administration duties, and documentation of work performed. QualificationsEducation & Work Experience
College diploma and/or completion of a trade school certification or equivalent work experience. 3-5 years’ experience as an auto, forklift, heavy equipment or truck and coach mechanic. A valid driver’s license is required.
Competencies and Skills Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems of battery and Internal Combustion powered material handling equipment.
Knowledge of electrical/hydraulics and electronic/ hydraulic principles.
Knowledge of the use of hand tools and measuring devices.
Knowledge of the use of electrical/electronic diagnostic tools/measurements and hydraulic diagnostic equipment.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong interpersonal, written and communication skills.
Customer service oriented.
Ability to be flexible and work in a fast paced and changing workplace.
Working
Conditions A Field Service Technician – Heavy will work in a variety of environments depending on customer facilities such as a warehouse, shop, parking lot etc. Including varying temperatures and subjected to dust, dirt, grease, and noise levels ranging from moderate to loud. Frequently works in a crouched position or on back lying on mechanic’s dolly beneath mobile material handling equipment. Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds.
