Haida Child & Family is a Haida-led organization providing culturally appropriate, wrap around services to Haida children and families.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Community Connections, the Mental Health Clinician will provide evidence-based therapy considering Haida traditions and values. Priority service will be for Haida families and individuals. This role involves delivering therapeutic interventions and crisis management, but also providing additional services in the areas of prevention, risk-reduction, community education while consulting and working in collaboration with other service agencies.

The focus of this position is to provide a holistic wellness framework focused on cultural and traditional values.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

o Provide direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention while consulting/liaising with community knowledge holders and professionals when appropriate.

o Conducts psychometric assessments and behavioural observation while gathering relevant psychosocial history in order to create to create a culturally appropriate treatment plan that will assist the client in achieving their goals and objectives;

o Develops and delivers time-limited individual and group counselling using DSM V (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), including identified traditional and alternative healing modalities when needed.

o Consults and liaises with other community agencies to ensure a wrap around services.

o Conduct suicide risk assessments and safety plans.

o Performs case reviews and evaluation of processes; prepares reports of relevant observations and evaluation of care to ensure continuity of quality service, communication and client documentation on the Jane system.

o Attends and participates in meetings directly concerning clients, including assessments, case reviews, progress meetings, internal/external case conferences.

o Maintains basic knowledge of psycho-tropic medications as prescribed by a physician,



maintaining an awareness of the effects of such medications.

o Maintains appropriate clinical/client/administrative records according to best practice standards and procedures and prepare monthly statistical reports.

o Promotes and maintains effective working relationships with clients and families, physicians, schools and hospitals to coordinate services, cooperation, resolve conflicts, influence outcomes, provide community consultation and provide psychoeducational training when needed.

o Organizes and participates in community outreach and education sessions and workshops to promote mental health awareness and services.

o Work collaboratively with other community service providers, including social workers, healthcare providers, and educators.

o Other duties as required to help support the vision and intention of Haida Child & Family to provide culturally appropriate services to Haida families.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

o Knowledge of Haida culture, history and the implications of colonization for Indigenous children, youth, families and communities o Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology or equivalent.

o Certification as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) or a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC).

o Two (2) years recent experience providing therapy and counselling support to children/youth, or adults or equivalent experience to this role.

o Demonstrated skills in psychometric assessments, and developing, implementing and evaluating treatment programs.

o Demonstrated skills related to the provision of individual and group therapy/counselling.

o Ability to develop strong working relationships with clients, children in care, foster parents, biological parents, and others service providers working on Haida Gwaii.

o Familiarity with the implementation and philosophy of integrated case management/wraparound services, including strong assessment skills.

o Ability to organize, prioritize and manage caseload.

o Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

o Skilled commitment, flexibility and good problem solving, and dispute resolution skills.

o Computer literacy for Microsoft Word, Excel and other computer software programs.

o Applicant must successfully undergo a Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.

o Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitive information with discretion.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

o Travel between communities will be required.

o Monday to Friday schedule but flexibility is needed from time to time based on Agency needs, including occasional evenings.

o Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check.

o Must be able to obtain and maintain a BC Driver’s License and possess their own vehicle.

o Must be willing and able to work remotely.
