For Nurse Practioner position that is full time and permanent, recruitment bonuses include: $5,000 on start date, $5,000 at 18 months of service and $10,000 at 30 months of service. Additional premiums include a $9,000 Annual Frontline Allowance and a $375 Monthly Retention Bonus of $4,500 per year. For Job shares, salary, bonuses/allowances are pro-rated in accordance with hours worked.

The Department of Health is responsible for health services and social programming in Nunavut. Staff at the Department of Health work to improve the health and well-being of Nunavummiut by addressing the differing needs of each community through culturally appropriate programs and services.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides and autonomously manages health assessment, diagnosis, intervention and follow-up care to the residents of their community in accordance with Nurse Practitioner Acts, regulations, policies, standards, mission and the objectives of the Department of Health and the Government of Nunavut. Through the provision of health interventions (health promotion, occupational health and safety, public health, community development and curative treatment) this position has a direct impact on the health status of clients, families and the community; and contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the health centre operations.
Key responsibilities of the successful candidate will also include:
- Provides professional nursing care and community health services to clients;
- Develops, facilitates, implements and modifies client and family education/teaching based on the needs of the client;
- Conducts health surveillance and preventative activities that may improve the health of the population;
- Provides expert and specialized knowledge of primary health care related to nursing in Nunavut.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job are usually obtained through a Graduate Level Advanced Nursing Practice degree or a Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice or Nurse Practitioner- Primary Health Care Diploma. Consideration will be given to candidates who have successfully completed a Nurse Practitioner competency challenge process through a Nursing Regulatory-Licensing body. Must be eligible to register as an NP with the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN).
To years NP experience preferred but will consider new NPs graduates who have 5 years recent RN experience in acute care setting. Possession of one or more of the following would be preferable but not upon initial hiring: Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Neonatal resuscitation (NRP), ALARM, STABLE, Fetal Monitoring, pelvic examination, labour and delivery experience with advanced obstetrical training.
Possession of one or more of the following at time of hire would be preferable, with the remainder (as directed) completed within first 12 months in the role and then as required in order to maintain certification: Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS), Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), fetal monitoring, Emergency Nursing Pediatric Care (ENPC) or Pedatric Advanced Life Support (PALS),
ALARM/ESW/FHS, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, ASIST or Mental Health First Aid.
Assets include the following: EKG interpretation, Critical Incident Stress Management, Pelvic Examination Training, Cross Cultural Training, Specialized Nursing Certificates.
Candidates who have graduated from the Nunavut Arctic College nursing program or other Canadian accredited nursing programs and have passed their NCLEX and been accepted into the Graduate Nursing Residency Program will be considered. NAC graduates will have priority.
This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a explicit Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

A Tier One allowance of $10/per hour premium is available to the following full-time, permanent, and job share employees: Supervisor Health Programs, Community Health Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Public Health Nurse, Psychiatric Nurse, Mental Health Consultant and Midwife. Positions eligible for this premium are located in the communities of Grise Fiord, Naujaat, Cambridge Bay, Kugaaruk, Taloyoak, Arctic Bay, Clyde River, Sanirajak, Iqaluit, Kimmirut, Qikiqtarjuaq, Resolute Bay.
A Tier Two allowance of $15/per hour premium is available to the following full-time, permanent, and job share employees: Supervisor Health Programs, Community Health Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Public Health Nurse, Psychiatric Nurse, Mental Health Consultant and Midwife. Positions eligible for this premium are located in the communities of Arviat, Baker Lake, Chesterfield Inlet, Gjoa Haven, Coral Harbour, Igloolik, Kinngait, Kugluktuk, Pangnirtung, Pond Inlet, Rankin Inlet, Sanikiluaq, Whale Cove.

- Élaborer, faciliter, mettre en œuvre et modifier le contenu éducatif/de l’enseignement du client et de sa famille en fonction des besoins du client;
- Effectuer une surveillance de la santé et mener des activités préventives susceptibles d’améliorer la santé de la population;
- Fournir des connaissances expertes et spécialisées sur les soins de santé primaires liés aux soins infirmiers au Nunavut.
Qualifications
Les connaissances, les compétences et les aptitudes nécessaires à cet emploi s’acquièrent habituellement à l’issue d’un diplôme de niveau supérieur en pratique infirmière avancée, d’un certificat en pratique infirmière avancée ou d’un diplôme en soins de santé primaires pour infirmiers praticiens et infirmières praticiennes. Seront pris en considération les candidat(e)s qui ont suivi avec succès une procédure d’évaluation des compétences d’infirmier praticien ou d’infirmière praticienne par le biais d’un organisme de réglementation des soins infirmiers. Il faut pouvoir s’inscrire en tant qu’infirmier praticien ou infirmière praticienne auprès de le Collège et lAssociation des infirmières des Territoires du Nord-Ouest et du Nunavut (CANNN).
Deux ans d’expérience en tant qu’infirmier praticien ou infirmière praticienne sont préférables, mais les candidatures des nouveaux infirmiers praticiens et nouvelles infirmières praticiennes diplômé(e)s qui ont cinq ans d’expérience récente en tant qu’IA dans un environnement de soins actif seront prises en considération. Avoir suivi une ou plusieurs des formations suivantes est souhaitable, mais non nécessaire au moment de l’embauche : Cours de base en traumatologie, soins avancés en réanimation cardiorespiratoire (SARC), réanimation néonatale (PRN), ALERTE, STABLE,
surveillance fœtale, examen pelvien, expérience du travail et de l’accouchement avec formation obstétricale avancée.
Il s’agit d’un poste de nature très délicate et une vérification du casier judiciaire jugée acceptable ainsi qu’une attestation de la capacité à travailler auprès d’une clientèle vulnérable sont requises.
Les langues officielles du Nunavut sont l’inuktut, l’anglais et le français. Les dossiers de candidature peuvent être envoyés dans l’une ou l’autre des langues officielles du Nunavut. La maitrise de plus d’une langue officielle du Nunavut constitue un atout.
La connaissance des collectivités inuites, de la culture, du rapport à la terre, des valeurs Qaujimajatuqangit inuites, de l’Inuktut et une expérience de travail dans un environnement interculturel nordique sont également considérées comme des atouts.
