Atlas Salt

Saint-Georges

Geologist

Location: St. George’s, Newfoundland and Labrador

Employment Type: Part-time: 1,000 hours/year

1. Position Summary

The Geologist provides owner-side geological support across Atlas Salt’s portfolio of mineral properties, the Great Atlantic Salt Project (salt, in development), the Black Bay nepheline property (in exploration and resource definition), and the Ace Pit gypsum mine (in operation, closure, and rehabilitation), maintaining the geological models of the deposits and providing the geological inputs that underpin mine planning, resource and reserve continuity, operations, and project execution. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role owns drilling support, core logging, geological data management, and quality control across the Corporation’s deposits, ensuring the geological basis is accurate, current, and defensible as each property advances through its respective stage.

The role requires sound geological capability across multiple deposit types and lifecycle stages, from grassroots exploration to development and operations, practical data-management discipline, and effective coordination with the engineering team, geotechnical and hydrogeological consultants, drilling contractors, environmental and regulatory functions, and the owner’s team. The Geologist ensures geological interpretation, sampling, and quality data are reflected accurately in the geological models, mine plan inputs, operational grade and quality control, and technical and lender-facing documentation for each property.

1. Key Responsibilities

Maintain and update the geological models of the Corporation’s deposits, the Great Atlantic Salt salt deposit, the Black Bay nepheline deposit, and the Ace Pit gypsum deposit, including stratigraphy, structure, deposit geometry, and grade and quality domains, in support of mine planning, operations, and resource and reserve continuity.

Plan and supervise drilling and exploration programs across the properties, including the Black Bay diamond-drilling program and block-model development, core and geotechnical drilling, GIS database maintenance, logging, sampling, and supervision of drilling contractors in the field.

Advance the Black Bay nepheline property, including exploration planning, diamond drilling, data gathering to support a future block model, and the geological inputs to exploration and water-crossing permitting, in coordination with the engineering and permitting functions.

Manage the Corporation’s mineral rights across its mineral claims, licences, and mining leases, including systematic land tenure monitoring, planning, and the maintenance of tenure in good standing.

Design, execute, and report on exploration and assessment work programs required to satisfy tenure obligations, including the preparation of mineral work assessment reports.

Act as the lead contact with provincial government regulators on mineral rights management and related exploration activities, including the filing of mineral work assessment reports and related tenure procedures to keep the Corporation’s mineral land rights in good standing.

Own geological data management, including the drillhole database, core logging records, survey data, and assay and quality results, ensuring data integrity and traceability.

Implement and maintain sample quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) programs, including chain of custody, standards, blanks, and duplicates.

Support the Ace Pit gypsum mine operations, closure, and rehabilitation, including geological input to grade and quality control, pit and stockpile mapping, closure-plan execution, and environmental-monitoring and regulatory commitments (e.g., Water Resources, Dust, and Transportation Management Plans), in coordination with the environmental and engineering functions.

Provide geological and grade- and quality-control inputs to mine planning, the mine development execution basis, and ongoing operations, in coordination with the Lead Mining Engineer and operations personnel at each property.

Coordinate geotechnical and hydrogeological data and interpretation with the Engineering Manager and external consultants (e.g., GEMTEC), ensuring geological inputs to ground conditions and water management are integrated.

Support resource and reserve estimation and NI 43-101 technical reporting, working with the Qualified Person(s) and external consultants as required.

Support lender and investor diligence by maintaining a defensible geological basis, database, and interpretation.

Maintain accurate geological records, logs, maps, sections, and model documentation to support audit-ready geological files.

Support site geological activities across the properties during exploration, early works, development, and operations, including mapping, face, pit, and exposure logging, and verification against the geological models.

Identify, document, and escalate geological, data-quality, resource-continuity, and ground-condition risks in a timely and constructive manner.

1. Qualifications

1. Education

Degree in Geology, Geological Sciences, or a closely related discipline. Registration as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) or eligibility for registration strongly preferred.
1. Experience:

5+ years of geological experience spanning exploration, resource-development, and operating-mine geology.

Experience in industrial-mineral and bedded deposits (e.g., salt, gypsum, nepheline, potash, evaporites) considered a strong asset.

Experience with core logging, drilling supervision, sampling QA/QC, and drillhole database management.

Experience supporting resource and reserve estimation or NI 43-101 reporting considered an asset.

Experience supporting multiple properties at different lifecycle stages, exploration through operations and closure, and exposure to environmental and regulatory commitments considered an asset.

1. Technical Skills:

Strong command of geological logging, interpretation, and three-dimensional geological modelling.

Working knowledge of drillhole databases, QA/QC programs, and geological data management.

Understanding of resource and reserve concepts, grade and quality control, and geological inputs to mine planning.

Familiarity with geotechnical and hydrogeological data and their integration into ground-condition and water-management interpretation.
