As a Quantum Chemistry Engineer at Photonic, you will be an integral part of our quantum development team, optimizing conventional and quantum algorithms for computational chemistry. You will use your knowledge of chemistry to develop, test, integrate and support a variety of customer use cases and develop our quantum chemistry stack. You will collaborate closely with a dedicated team of engineers and scientists to realize systems needed for truly scalable quantum computing.
You are a self-starter with critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
What we need you to do:
- Port existing conventional and quantum chemistry libraries for use on Photonic's next- generation quantum computing systems
- Develop practical quantum chemistry solutions for Photonic's quantum computers
- Research and develop new quantum chemistry algorithms and determine improvements to existing algorithms for achieving more accurate and efficient quantum chemistry calculations
- Integrate validated prototype quantum chemistry algorithms
- Test and benchmark developed solutions on a variety of use cases and resource constraints
- Perform resource estimations and simulations for customer use cases
- Implement customer use cases and define the Photonic chemistry stack
- Collaborate with other teams on the development and optimization of Photonic quantum hardware and software stacks, error mitigation, and error correction processes
- Contribute to the Intellectual Property development process.
What you bring to our team:
- A PhD degree in physics,
math or computer science or equivalent industry experience in quantum chemistry
- Advanced knowledge of quantum chemistry theory
- Practical experience with chemical simulation techniques
- Practical experience with quantum and conventional computational chemistry
- Familiarity with existing computational chemistry software packages, such as Gaussian, ORCA and PySCE
- Familiarity with in silico drug discovery pipelines, high throughput screening, or chemistry simulations are a plus
- Problem-solving skills and ability to resolve ambiguous requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to creatively solve engineering problems
- Experience working in a start-up company, working with senior leadership, scientists, engineers, and other team members
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to new situations in a rapidly changing research environment
- Outstanding teamwork skills
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Able to work with minimal supervision
