Reporting to the Director of Finance you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial operations across the company.
Your responsibilities will encompass a range of day-to-day general accounting tasks, including the preparation of month-end working papers, financial statements, financial reports, and related filings. To excel in this role, you must possess a high attention to detail, exceptional time management skills, and a dedication to maintaining financial integrity.
Location: Burnaby, BC
Salary Range: $70,000 to $80,000
The Day To Day
- Partner closely with the Director of Finance and members of the Finance team to fulfill the company's financial reporting and accounting requirements.
- Take ownership of assigned accounting functions and ensure transactions are accurately recorded and appropriately supported.
- Manage customer billing activities, including billable expenses, revenue accruals, adjustments, and other revenue-related items.
- Prepare and review bank reconciliations in a timely manner and investigate and resolve outstanding variances.
- Prepare month-end journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and other closing activities.
- Prepare and maintain detailed month-end working papers and supporting schedules.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and investigate and resolve variances or discrepancies.
- Prepare monthly analysis of revenue trends, variances, and other financial information for review by the Finance and Leadership teams.
- Review financial information for completeness, accuracy,
and adherence to accounting policies and procedures.
- Provide guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to other members of the accounting team.
- Review weekly payment batches for completeness, accuracy, appropriate approvals, and supporting documentation.
- Prepare supporting working papers and schedules for government remittances, including GST/HST, QST, PST, and RST requirements.
- Support the annual external audit by preparing schedules/reconciliations and compiling supporting documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, reporting, and efficiencies across the Finance department.
- Participate in the implementation of department-wide process improvements and new systems or processes.
- Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis, accounting projects, and other duties as required.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- CPA designation or actively pursuing a CPA designation.
- 2+ years of accounting experience, experience in a Senior Accountant is an asset
- Understanding of Canadian GAAP and ASPE reporting standards.
- Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial reporting.
- Experience with revenue recognition, billing, and analysis is an asset.
- Experience with Canadian indirect tax and payroll-related remittances, including GST/HST, PST, QST, and EHT, is an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel,
including the ability to work with large datasets and perform financial analysis.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both Finance and operational teams.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- A proactive mindset with a demonstrated interest in process improvement and operational efficiency.
