Position: SHOP HAND (Countertop Focused)

Purpose:

The Shop Hand is responsible for various activities to aid in the everyday operations at NSWW’s shop and at construction sites. Throughout the manufacturing process, the Shop Hand’s activities include loading and unloading tools, raw or finished materials, and assembling countertops and wood products, installing laminate countertops, assisting with quartz installs, and prepping and cleaning installs.

An effective Shop Hand is adaptable and quick to learn new skills. They comprehend instructions and execute them effectively within the allotted time frame.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Implementing construction plans and following supervisor instructions

· Performing physical duties as assigned

· Operating and maintaining power tools, machinery and equipment

· Assisting skilled tradesmen with their responsibilities

· Performing other related duties as instructed, including tracking work hours on a project basis and providing job progress updates to your supervisor

· Assisting on installs

- Extra set of hands to help where needed,

- Cleaning and preparing install sites,

- Moving, securing, installing, building, loading, or unloading equipment and materials per instructions

· Working in the shop
- Processing countertops (cutting, filing, gluing, assembling, etc)

- Cutting stock parts

- Assisting with cabinetmaking (sanding, cutting, edging, etc.)

- Housekeeping / cleaning

- Shipping and receiving

- Organizing and sorting inventory

Qualifications

● Knowledge and experience with power tools and machinery is necessary





● Experience working on a construction site is a plus

● Completion of High school diploma, GED, specialization, or certificate is an asset

● Apprenticeship training from a technical school is a plus

· Able to multitask and prioritize

· Needs a good grasp of measurements and mathematics

· Able to lift heavy items independently (approx. 100lbs)

· Experience with power tools and/or saws

· A valid Driver’s license is an asset

· First aid certificate is an asset

· Forklift certification is an asset

Working Conditions:

● Exposure to distracting or uncomfortable sounds and noise levels

● May involve exposure to very hot or very cold temperatures when working outdoors

● May involve working in very bright or very dim lighting conditions

● May involve exposure to contaminants or chemicals (e.g. fumes from paints or sealers)

● May involve use of hazardous machinery or equipment

● May require lifting heavy loads of up to 50 pounds, etc.

● Overtime and hours outside of typical working schedule may be required

● Some travel may be required

Wage is paid hourly and based upon experience within a range of $18.00 - $25.00 per hour.
