THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you passionate about systems design, digital health innovation, and the future of AI-enabled healthcare? Crohn's and Colitis Canada is seeking a highly motivated and analytical co-op student to support the Digital Health Initiatives team in shaping the future of our digital programs, MyGut and GoHere.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of healthcare, technology, architecture, and strategy. The successful candidate will help document current-state technology ecosystems, assess opportunities for modernization, and contribute to the development of future-state technology architectures that support scalability, sustainability, artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, and reduced dependence on external development vendors.

As part of the Digital Health Initiatives team, you will gain hands-on experience in enterprise architecture, systems design, digital product strategy, cloud technologies, AI-enabled models, and healthcare innovation. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders, external technology partners, and program leaders to create strategic recommendations that will help shape the evolution of digital services supporting Canadians living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Term Date: September 14, 2026 till December 23, 2026

Student will be granted a stipend during the co-op.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary co-op program in Systems Design Engineering.

- Solid interest in systems architecture, digital transformation, and emerging technologies.

- Experience with Microsoft 365 and collaboration tools.





- Familiarity with software development lifecycle methodologies.

- Understanding of system architecture concepts, APIs, databases, and cloud technologies.

- Interest in artificial intelligence, automation, and technology modernization.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.

- Ability to document technical information and create process diagrams.

- Self-motivated, curious, and detail-oriented.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.

- Strong organization, time management, and project management skills.

- Collaborative and comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Familiarity with architecture modeling tools (Miro etc.) is an asset.

- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) is an asset.

- Knowledge of modern software architecture patterns and AI technologies is an asset.

- Interest in healthcare, digital health, accessibility, or nonprofit technology initiatives is an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Architecture Discovery & Documentation

- Document the current-state architecture of MyGut and GoHere, including key applications, integrations, data flows, and external dependencies.





- Develop architecture diagrams and technical documentation to support future planning.

- Create an inventory of platforms, technologies, and vendors that support both programs.

Future-State Architecture Planning

- Research industry trends in digital health, platform architecture, cloud technologies, and AI-enabled solutions.

- Support the development of future-state architecture recommendations for MyGut and GoHere.

- Identify opportunities for shared services, platform consolidation, scalability, and improved maintainability.

Vendor & Technology Assessment

- Analyze current vendor dependencies and identify opportunities to reduce reliance on external development partners.

- Assess opportunities to leverage AI tools and modern development practices to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

- Contribute to recommendations for a sustainable long-term technology operating model.

Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting

- Participate in stakeholder interviews and requirements-gathering sessions.

- Deliver a final architecture assessment and modernization roadmap at the end of the work term.
