The Test Hardware Technologist supports the design, integration, and deployment of production‑ready module and system‑level test systems in Redlen’s detector module manufacturing setting.
The Test System
Technologist is accountable to support engineering to ensure test hardware and systems are robust, scalable, and manufacturable, reducing long-term operational burden.
Working Conditions: This role is not eligible for Redlen’s Hybrid Framework, all work will be required to be onsite at our Vancouver Island Tech Park location, and occasionally at our main Saanichton manufacturing facility. The role will have standard working hours, however may be required to provide shift coverage during system deployment, NPI, major design changes, and escalations and requires availability outside standard hours to ensure successful test system introduction and stability. Lifting, standing and working in a production environment will be required.
Key Responsibilities: Test Fixture Build &
- Maintenance Build, wire, and assemble prototype and production-intent test fixtures from engineering documentation
Modify, rework, and retrofit test hardware based on engineering changes and production feedback
Maintain and repair test systems to ensure uptime in a production environment
Identify wear-prone components (connectors, cables, fixtures) and proactively address reliability issues System Integration &
- Bring‑Up Support engineers with hands‑on system integration and bring‑up, including: harness design and routing grounding, shielding,
and basic isolation protection power‑up checks and fault identification Execution of formal system checkout and validation procedures prior to production release.
Verify correct wiring, pin mapping, and basic system functionality Production Readiness, Deployment &
- Escalation Support Support engineers to ensure technical readiness of test systems prior to release to manufacturing.
Provide support during deployment and early production, especially across shifts.
Participate in root cause analysis Design Control, Documentation &
- Standards Produce and maintain design‑level documentation, including: system schematics and block diagrams interface definitions and pin maps build packages and revision history Support ECN/ECO processes tied to test system design.
Contribute to and adhere to internal test system design standards, checklists, and best practices.
Ensure documentation supports multi‑shift operation and long‑term maintenance. NPI Enablement &
- Continuous Improvement Support NPI with production‑intent test systems, not lab-only setups.
Participate in product and test design reviews with a focus on: testability at module and system level long‑term manufacturability configurability across product variants Identify design improvements that reduce downtime, false failures,
changeover effort and support and maintenance load Success Measures Test systems released to production with minimal post-release rework
Reduced recurrence of issues traceable to system-level design weaknesses
Faster and safer product/configuration changeovers
High-quality, consistent documentation enabling reliable multi-shift operation
Demonstrated reuse of system designs across multiple products Experience and Qualifications: Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience.
3+ years experience in test hardware, hardware integration, or manufacturing test systems.
Practical understanding of power distribution and protection, grounding, shielding, and noise mitigation, cabling, connectors, and harness design
Ability to read and produce schematics, wiring diagrams, and system drawings.
Preferred Experience Experience integrating module‑ or system‑level test platforms.
Experience with high‑mix / low‑volume manufacturing environments.
Exposure to ATE concepts, rack‑based test systems, or custom semi‑automated testers.
Experience supporting NPI or transferring test systems from engineering to production.
Skills and Competencies Strong hands-on problem solving skills
Attention to detail in wiring, assembly, and documentation
Ability to follow and execute engineering designs accurately
Organized and disciplined approach to changes and documentation
Clear communication with engineers and production teams
Sense of ownership for build quality and system reliability Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000 CAD
