Description Trail Crew Forepersons work to provide a safe experience for guests by managing terrain, using the accumulation and distribution of natural snowfall at the resort. Forepersons are focused on safety and effective communication to maintain a positive, efficient work environment.
Trail Crew
Forepersons participate in slope preparation and maintenance, public safety, and emergency response within their training and abilities. There is a strong focus on safety, effective communication, and teamwork to maintain a positive, efficient work environment.
Trail Crew
Forepersons work under the direction of the Trail Crew Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor and work closely with all Mountain Operations departments.
Essential Functions The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee the employees within the Trail Crew department, when the Supervisor is absent, or at the direction of the Supervisor. Preparing and maintaining slopes by collecting snow through the establishment and maintenance of fencing.
Clearing of snow from premises.
Communicating effectively via radio.
Creating, reviewing and adhering to safe work procedures and hazard assessments for all tasks within the scope of work. Effectively provide training, support, and assistance to coworkers, and participate in training. Actively participating, within scope of abilities, in avalanche rescue response and emergency response.
Timely and accurate reporting of all incidents and deficiencies to appropriate personnel. Other duties may be requested and assigned from time to time. Experience/Requirements Minimum 2 years in a mountainous environment, with advanced skiing skills.

Aid. Proven ability to lead a team, perform all duties and department tasks, and be self-motivated. Physically fit and capable of completing required job tasks.

Outgoing, positive, and friendly attitude. Ability to work well as part of a close-knit team.
Prepared to work flexible schedules e.g., weekends, holidays, nights, extended hours. Calm under pressure and patient, with good time management skills. Work in a confidential capacity. Maintain professional conduct when knowingly acting as a company representative on or off duty. Must be neat, alert, punctual and dependable, acting as a leader and mentor.
Additional Considerations
Employees must always be of sound mind and report to work fit for duty. The ability to exercise valuable judgement is essential and a key requirement of the position. This position requires the ability to ski for long periods of time (spending the day in ski boots is normal), constant trunk rotation, frequent lifting, pushing/pulling of equipment and tools (up to 45 kg). Requires working at heights, occasionally climbing ladders, ascending inclined slopes.
There will be exposure to extreme environments (temperature and wind) and remote work.
This role may operate machinery and complete work around moving equipment. Required uniform pieces (jacket, pants) are provided. Certain equipment must be provided by the employee in advance, and during employment: Alpine or Telemark downhill skis with releasable bindings
Ski poles, ski boots, ski helmet (ASTM F2040; CEN 1077; Snell RS-98; Z263.1 certified)
Insulated winter boots with rubber sole
Headlamp
Ski equipment used for work must be in good operating condition, meet Sunshine Village equipment requirements, and may be tested throughout the season. Progressive skills listed as functions for this role may not be undertaken until training is complete, skills are demonstrated, and document requirements are fulfilled.
