School District No. 91 (Nechako Lakes) is seeking applications for Casual Indigenous Education Advocates to support Indigenous students in the Fraser Lake area. This is a casual position with no guaranteed hours.
The Successful Candidate Will
- Provide cultural, language, and social-emotional support to Indigenous students
- Act as a positive Indigenous role model and promote pride in Indigenous culture
- Collaborate with teachers to support students’ academic, cultural, and emotional needs
- Communicate with families and guardians to promote student success
- Advocate for students and participate in school-based teams as needed
- Submit regular administrative reports to the school and Indigenous Education Department
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12 (Dogwood Certificate)
- Two years of post-secondary studies related to working with Indigenous families and children (must include an Indigenous education component)
- Note:
Applicants who do not meet this requirement will be designated as Unqualified and must begin relevant programming within two years of hire
- Minimum of 6 months of relevant experience working with Indigenous students
- Familiarity with local Indigenous communities, both on- and off-reserve, and local band offices
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving record (driver’s abstract required)
- WHMIS 2015 Certificate and familiarity with WorkSafeBC safety procedures
This position is included in a Special Program by the BC Office of the Human Rights Commissioner and is open only to applicants who identify as Indigenous. Indigenous self-identification will be required to be awarded the job.
