Job Description
The Facility Mechanic / Locksmith is tasked with duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain facility equipment and building according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.
Facility Mechanic / Locksmith installs, maintains, repairs and replaces locks, deadbolts, knobs, related door and window security devices; issues keys and maintains inventory, coding and control of keys and lock systems; prepares reports and maintains records; performs related work as assigned.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Recommend purchase of lock systems; prepare purchase orders for lock supplies, key blanks, and miscellaneous locks and hardware.
- Develop key plans and obtain approvals.
- Maintain records of locks, keys and work performed.
- Maintain tools and equipment used in locksmithing, and shop facilities.
- Maintain current knowledge of lock design, features and availability.
- Evaluate and recommend resolution of various security related problems.
- Maintain and control duplicate key sets; work with other departments and outside agencies to develop and control key systems.
- Install, maintain, adjust and repair locks, knobs, deadbolts and latches on doors, windows, office furniture and equipment, cabinets and cupboards, and safety equipment panels and cabinets; install, maintain and repair panic hardware and door closers.
- Develop keying schemes for master control keys and individual locks; key and rekey locks in accordance with master control plans.
- Maintain records and files of keying information and issued keys; maintain inventory of tools, locks,
knobs, keys and other related hardware; review key requests.
- Obtain approvals from supervisors, managers and issue security and miscellaneous keys to personnel; change codes and issue padlocks; survey and assess lock and related security devices available from vendors and manufacturers.
- Respond to requests for assistance to open locks which are stuck or for which user keys have been lost.
- Assist in the implementation of preventative maintenance (PM) program; ensure that deficiencies are identified, recorded and escalated, and that related documentation is maintained.
- Participate in and assist with facility-related projects.
- Ensure compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and other applicable requirements.
- Maintain all assigned tools and arrange for repair and replacement where required.
- Submit all expenditures on a timely basis.
- Assist in enhancing customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through manner in which work is performed and services delivered.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including Mechanic Generalist.
Qualifications
- More than 3 up to 5 years of facility operations and maintenance work experience.
- High school diploma plus locksmithing training, certificate of qualification or licensing.
- Ability to adhere to and properly execute processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance.
- Strong building mechanical and electrically operated equipment skills, system troubleshooting and resolution skills.
- Current knowledge of fire, life, safety and building codes and standards and ability to research and apply related codes and standards.
- Solid environmental, health and safety mindset; ability to perform work in a safe and effective manner.
- Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency.
- Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
- Certified Locksmith / specialized door and/or door security systems certification(s).
Working Conditions
- Must be able and willing to work 12 hour rotating shifts, be available for shift replacement and emergency call-outs as they arise.
- Must be willing to wear personal protective equipment.
- Must meet security clearance requirements.
