Position Title: Special Needs Educator
Reporting to: Daycare Manager
Status: Full-time (7 hours/day), Grant-Funded
Wage: $32/hour
Location: Sk’atsin Child Care Centre – Chase, BC
Start Date: July 2025 (exact date to be confirmed)
Job Summary
The Sk’atsin Child Care Centre is seeking a compassionate and experienced Special Needs Educator to support inclusive programming within our early childhood education environment. This position plays a key role in creating a safe, supportive, and responsive space for children with diverse abilities, in partnership with our educators and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to children with additional needs
- Collaborate with the ECE team to create inclusive, developmentally appropriate programming
- Implement Individual Program Plans (IPPs) or support strategies developed in collaboration with parents, therapists, or consultants
- Assist with transitions, emotional regulation, and social interactions
- Foster a culturally secure, trauma-informed, and strengths-based environment
- Maintain documentation and observations to support developmental goals
- Work respectfully with families and caregivers as part of a holistic approach to care
- Support all children in the program as needed to ensure inclusive play and participation
Qualifications
- Valid Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certificate or ECE Assistant with experience in inclusive care
- Additional training or certification related to special needs or inclusive education (e.g., SNE, EA, ABA)
- Experience working with children with diverse needs in early learning settings
- Knowledge of inclusive practices, child development, and positive guidance strategies
- Strong communication, collaboration, and observation skills
- Current First Aid & CPR (Child Care level)
- Clear criminal record check (including vulnerable sector clearance) required upon hiring
Assets
- Familiarity with Indigenous ways of being and knowing, or experience working in Indigenous communities
- Understanding of the impact of intergenerational trauma on child development
- Ability to incorporate traditional approaches and land-based learning into inclusive practice
