Fields of study offered within the School of Life Sciences are: Animal Health, Equine, Horticulture, and the National Meat Training Centre.The Opportunity - Instructional Assistant, Veterinary Technology Programs (3 full-time, temporary positions)6 month term August - March9 month term, August - June12 month term, August - AugustThis position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement Job Classification: Instructional Assistant (40).This position is responsible for assisting instructors in the learning environment leading to student success by preparing, distributing,



or demonstrating equipment and materials; assisting students; and performing additional tasks as required.Key Job FunctionsAssist and support instructors and students in the classroom and during hands-on instruction in a variety of courses in the Olds College Veterinary Technology and related programmingSupport the delivery of Instruction by:Assist in set up and take down of labsDevelopment of Lab Guides as resources for coursesMaintain materials for student study purposesProvide in-class and lab assistance, not involving instruction of new materialIn consultation with the Associate Dean, the Instructional Assistant may assist in exam and practical lab assessment monitoring where the method and volume may be too large for the instructor aloneOrdering, purchasing, keeping inventory of materials and supplies for assigned classesCo-ordinate and/or carry out the collection, preparation of materials/supplies required for instructionPlays a key role in ensuring the safety of students in a variety of situationsProvide assistance to students in daily course activities and discussions within assigned programsAssist with College events, promotion/recruiting activities as requestedParticipate as a member of Instructional Support Teams and other College groups/teamsMeets and communicates frequently with Associate Dean regarding task, project and workload prioritiesResponsible for ensuring email communication is maintainedMay be expected to work outside of regular college hoursEducation/Experience/Skills/Knowledge RequiredAn RVT designation with 3 years of recent and applicable industry experienceLicensed, or eligible for licensure, in the relevant professional association (ABVTA and ABVMA)Practical experience should include small animal nursing skills,



preference will be given to those who also have practical experience with large animal nursing skillsProven capability for collaborative partnership development and teamworkAdept communication and problem-solving abilitiesDemonstrated ability to use technology including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and the internetA willingness to learn and/or maintain a current knowledge of relevant technology is requiredAbility to work independently and as part of a teamStrong organization and time management skills as well as an eye for detailPresents a positive, professional image and possesses solid interpersonal, customer service and communication skillsDisplays honesty, integrity, and a solid sense of ethics in all decisions and actionsConditions Of EmploymentA valid Driver's LicenseCurrent Criminal Reference check that is free of any offences.Actively promote and reinforce practices that prioritize the well‑being and security of all individuals at Olds College.
