- Recognized diploma in Therapy Assistant (OT and/or PT)
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
- One year experience preferably in a long‑term care setting
- Experience in assessing therapeutic needs, development, implementation and evaluation of therapeutic programs
Technical Competencies
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, the OT Assistant will oversee therapy programs and OT Aides. The Assistant will maintain department statistics, records and documentation on resident charts as assigned. The Assistant will assist the therapist as directed with AADL orders, equipment trials, and resident treatments.
Key Accountabilities
- Resident programming: individual programs, group programs, planning, implementation, evaluation, documentation
- Public Relations: communication with families, residents, stakeholders; customer service; facilitation of resident, family and volunteer interaction; resident advocacy
- Quality Improvement: obtain feedback from customers and implement improvement strategies; recommend program ideas, improvements, changes
Occupational Health and Safety Accountabilities
- Carry out duties in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and company policy
- Follow safe work practices as directed by supervisor and as required by legislation
- Participate in required occupational health and safety training
- Use appropriate equipment and wear personal protective equipment or clothing as required
- Report any known or identified health and safety hazards or violations to supervisor
MDS Accountabilities
- Assist in tracking therapy time
Privacy Accountabilities
- Respect and preserve the privacy, confidentiality and security of health care and employee information at all times
- Do not access or misuse confidential information outside the scope of duties
- Do not disclose usernames or passwords
- Do not discuss confidential information in public areas
- Dispose of confidential information appropriately
Resident/Family Safety Accountabilities
- Carry out duties in compliance with applicable legislation, standards and company policy
- Refrain from conduct that puts residents and family members at risk
