CDN is a recognized industry leader in the energy services sector. CDN is a full‑service provider with expertise in Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance, renewables/solar, major projects, combustion & emissions reduction, and measurement.

We are looking to hire Automation Specialists/Programmers to join our team based out of Calgary, Edmonton and Grande Prairie.

This role is responsible for coordinating, troubleshooting, and implementing control systems, monitoring, and completing commissioning and start‑ups on new facilities. In addition, the Automation Specialist/Programmer is responsible for the regular maintenance operation, metering and safety shutdown of wellsite and plant facilities to ensure no equipment failure occurs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Compressor Station, and Processing Facility Control System Design.
- Software Development of PLC and DCS systems.
- On site commissioning and startup assistance of new facilities.
- Development of Controls and Automation Equipment Standards & Specifications.
- Perform complex technical tasks related to control and automation systems.
- Backups of PLC/HMI program “Asfound” and Modified files are extremely important.
- Pre‑test equipment and software as much as possible.
- Initiate work alone process if required.
- Obtain Secure work permits.
- Fill out Pre job hazard Analysis.
- Obtain a clear scope of work from direct supervisor or client.
- Communicate with client representative on how the requested work will affect plant operation and surrounding personnel (e.g., plant shutdown, beacon/horn actuation etc.)



to ensure all parties who are working in the vicinity and could be affected are aware of the hazards or changes to the work zone.
- Document any changes that affect the control or shutdown operation of the plant in writing by someone with authority; preferably the MOC (Management of change) documentation should be attached.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware and wiring issues.
- Deal with a variety of voltages; help of an electrician is common practice.
- Work with pressures in the operation of process equipment.
- Back up all PLC, HMI, RTU, etc. “Asfound” programs and files.
- Perform work and test; if any forces or disabling were required for testing, start‑up etc., ensure they are removed before leaving site. Never leave a bypass in place. If a bypass must remain, it must be ordered and documented by someone in authority, not just an operator.
- Final check of work performed.
- Backups on site and document changes.
- Sign off and return permits.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

- Experience in field automation with PLCs, remote terminal units.
- Control and automation system design of oil and gas facilities.
- Experience with high level of Allen Bradley PLC systems, RSLogix, Modicon PLCs, Ignition SCADA, VTScada and numerous other software.
- Experience with Allen Bradley hardware.
- Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)



and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) applications.
- Ability to execute control system integration on multiple complex projects with a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Motivation and ability to improve existing processes.
- Understanding of complex controls systems and ability to identify potential areas of improvement.
- Computer experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Valid class 5 driver’s abstract with a clean record.
- Pre‑employment drug and alcohol testing.
- H2S, First Aid Level C, CPR & AED, CSTS, CSO, TDG & WHMIS certifications.
