General Manager, Sales & Commercial Operations

Introduction
Brunel is currently seeking an experienced General Manager, Sales & Commercial Operations to provide strategic leadership across a large regional business within the mining and industrial services sector. This role is responsible for driving business performance through strong commercial leadership, operational excellence, customer engagement, and people development.
The successful candidate will lead a complex regional operation with full accountability for safety, financial results, customer satisfaction, operational performance, and talent development. This position requires a highly commercial and operationally focused leader who can balance strategic growth initiatives with day-to-day execution while fostering a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Business & Operational Leadership
- Lead regional operations with accountability for safety, people, customers, operational performance, profitability, and growth.
- Develop and execute regional business strategies that support long-term commercial success and operational excellence.
- Manage full regional P&L; responsibilities, budgets, forecasts, and business performance metrics.
- Drive operational efficiency, service delivery improvements, and asset utilization across the region.
- Ensure customer requirements are met through exceptional service delivery and operational execution.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability, business performance, and customer outcomes.
- Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives across operations, logistics, safety, and service delivery.
- Provide leadership to multiple sites and operational teams while ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Commercial & Customer Leadership
- Build and strengthen strategic customer relationships across the region.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for business growth and market expansion.
- Leverage market intelligence and customer insights to develop value-driven commercial strategies.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver integrated customer solutions and business objectives.
- Ensure commercial activities are aligned with operational capabilities and customer expectations.
Leadership & People Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing regional team.
- Drive employee engagement, performance management, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
- Support workforce planning and organizational development activities.
- Promote strong leadership practices that develop future talent and strengthen team capability.
Safety, Compliance & Governance
- Champion a solid health, safety, and environmental culture.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, company standards, and operational procedures.
- Lead risk management, environmental stewardship, and operational compliance initiatives.
- Ensure effective management of change processes for operational, engineering, and people-related changes.
- Monitor and improve business performance through strong governance, reporting, and operational controls.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Mining, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of leadership experience, including 5+ years in a senior regional or executive management capacity.
- Proven experience leading both commercial and operational functions within mining, industrial, manufacturing, construction, explosives, or related sectors.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, P&L; responsibilities, forecasting, and performance management.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing business growth strategies while driving operational performance.
- Experience leading geographically dispersed teams and multiple operational sites.
- Strong customer relationship management and business development capabilities.
- Exceptional leadership, coaching, and talent development skills.
- Knowledge of safety, environmental, quality, maintenance, and operational management systems.
- Experience working within highly regulated industrial environments.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to influence and lead within complex matrix organizations.
- Strong understanding of logistics, supply chain, and service delivery operations.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and business reporting tools.
- Ability to travel frequently throughout the region.
- Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within the mining, explosives, blasting services, bulk materials, manufacturing, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Experience supporting large-scale industrial operations with a strong focus on safety and operational excellence.
- Knowledge of commercial explosives, drilling and blasting, or mining operations would be considered an asset.
