Under the direction of the Manager of Employment and Life Services, the Employment Specialist supports individuals with a disability to acquire the education, skills, training, and support required to secure and maintain competitive employment. This position works in partnership with individuals, local employers, and other service providers to plan and make decisions which result in job placements for individuals with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities Assess clients’ interests, skills, vocational goals, and employment readiness. Support clients with job searches, resumes, interview preparation, and pre-employment training. Identify employment and work experience opportunities and develop relationships with local employers. Market the program and clients to employers and facilitate suitable job placements. Provide on-the-job coaching, training, follow-up,
and ongoing employer support to help sustain placements. Stay current on labour market trends, employment regulations, community resources, and training prospects. Maintain accurate client records and prepare progress reports for management and funders. Advocate for the inclusion and participation of individuals with developmental disabilities in the community. Collaborate with the Employment team to improve service quality, policies, and procedures. Maintain client privacy, confidentiality, and qualified standards. Education & Experience Degree, diploma, or certificate in Career Development, Social Work, Counselling, Vocational Rehabilitation, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
