What is the Opportunity?
Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Estimator will generate accurate and timely cost estimates for assigned projects in the utility infrastructure sector.
What You'll Do Here
- Analyze documents, drawings, specifications, addenda, and quotations in preparation for pricing.
- Perform estimate‑related oral and written communications with clients.
- Conduct quantity take‑offs within the design phase and from construction drawings.
- Coordinate and obtain pricing from subcontractors and suppliers; incorporate into estimate.
- Collaborate with procurement, operations, PMO, finance, and owners staff to drive project success.
- Formulate all costs for price modelling, pricing and tender submissions – labour, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of submissions.
- Conduct bid closing and bid handover meetings and job set‑ups as required.
- Prepare recommendations for award of subcontracts and distribute documentation upon award.
- Track, forecast, and report on financial and operational performance of selected projects; provide data to support forecasts.
- Maintain files and correspondence on active and completed projects.
- Provide technical support to field staff as appropriate.
- Complete post‑bid/post‑project analysis and capture associated learnings.
- Share accountability for the overall financial performance of awarded projects.
- Assist with prequalification, RFQ and RFI submissions as required.
- Incorporate compliance with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
- Build positive relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Engage the public through job site visits, client and consultant interactions, and subcontractor visits.
- Travel to owner offices, work sites, and for pre‑tender site review; occasional overnight travel.
- Drive an inclusive culture, promoting equity and career progression.
What You Bring To the Team
- Diploma,
degree or trade certification – Electrical.
- Understanding of electrical utility systems and associated civil works (asset).
- Minimum 5 years estimating experience; experience in electrical/hydro (asset).
- Capability to read and understand construction drawings and contract specifications.
- Engineering experience or equivalent technical knowledge in renewable energy (asset).
- Experience and knowledge in product selection and implementation (asset).
- Knowledge of contract language, terms & conditions, surety, etc.
- Knowledge of job cost fundamentals and accounting/reporting (asset).
- Self‑motivated with excellent organisational skills.
- Strong computer skills – MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams.
- Experience with estimating software.
- Strong communication skills – oral and written.
- Ability to work accurately, effectively under pressure; adaptable to flexible schedule.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel.
- Skilled designation an asset (P.Eng., C.E.T., CTech).

Expected pay range: $80,000 - $110,000 per year; individual pay determined by location, education, experience, skills and job conditions.
