The Blueprint
The Health and Safety Specialist actively contributes to the development, implementation, communication, and maintenance of Deltera’s comprehensive Health and Safety program and project-specific safety plans. This position necessitates close collaboration with management and project teams across various projects in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Responsibilities encompass providing expert guidance, diligent monitoring, and detailed reporting to cultivate a safety culture that not only meets but consistently surpasses expectations, ensuring the well‑being of all involved stakeholders.
A Glimpse Into Your Daily Activities
- Conduct site‑specific safety orientations for workers, owners, clients, and subcontractors.
- Assist the safety team in coordinating training sessions such as WHMIS, First Aid, Forklift, and Propane.
- Perform workplace inspections and audits, focusing on current workplace plans, including emergency evacuations, fire emergencies, traffic controls, and fall protection.
- Assist the Joint Health and Safety Committees.
- Aid the safety team during accident/incident investigations.
- Participate in weekly site safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Attend site‑specific coordination meetings.
- Mediate health and safety issues for resolution.
- Maintain updated health and safety records and documentation in accordance with Deltera standards.
- Liaise with government agencies.
- Review weekly subcontractor health and safety submissions to ensure compliance.
- Assist in reviewing subcontractor job hazard analyses and safe work procedures.
- Issue disciplinary warnings/notices for non‑compliance with safety regulations.
- Assist in compiling pre‑project packages for recent projects.
- Review internal project teams' health and safety submissions to ensure compliance.
- Ensure that project equipment, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, etc., receive frequent documented inspections.
The Architect of Your Success
- Post‑secondary education in Health & Safety or equivalent.
- Entry level, 1‑year experience in a construction industry Health and Safety role.
- Completion of WHMIS and Working at Heights training.
- Working towards National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification.
- Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Strong knowledge of the Regulations for Construction Project.
- Solid communication skills, both oral and written.
- Self‑motivated with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and to be proactive.
- Adaptable to a flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with others as a team.
