It offers guardianship and trusteeship services, administers estates, and manages benefits. OPGT also oversees capacity assessments, investigates complaints regarding decision‑makers, and provides guidance on advance planning and personal directives. Role Responsibilities
Are you looking for a role where you can actively make a difference in the lives of vulnerable Albertans? Do you thrive in a dynamic and collaborative work environment? The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee is currently seeking a Public Guardian Representative for Calgary.
As a Public Guardian Representative, You Must
- Review Officer function for guardianship, trusteeship, and co‑decision‑making applications, including reviewing applications, meeting with proposed represented or assisted adults, completing reference checks, and preparing Review Officer Reports for the Court.
- Make and document delegated personal, non‑financial decisions under different pieces of legislation, including the Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act, Personal Directives Act, and Mental Health Act.
- Work with represented adults, families, and support networks to gather information, understand each adult’s needs,
and make decisions in the adult’s best interests.
- Be skilled at coordinating and participating in case conferences to engage clients, keep families and other stakeholders informed, and create opportunities that allow clients to have meaningful input into their plans.
- Be well‑versed in negotiating case management plans; reviewing and determining suitable community services to assist clients with complex needs.
- Build collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
- Drive a positive workplace culture.
- Adapt to a flexible schedule – occasional public presentations/meetings in the evening and on weekends.
- Be willing to participate in an on call/after‑hours rotation (approximately one week per year).
As The Successful Candidate, You Will Possess
- Excellent collaboration and negotiation skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, as documentation and communication with physicians, allied health professionals, legal partners, and the judicial system are a daily part of this role.
- Solid interviewing and assessment skills
- Strong judgment, problem‑solving, mediation, and conflict resolution skills in complex and sensitive situations.
- An ability to develop and maintain positive workplace relationships
- Strong research and advocacy skills

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Related university degree with a minimum 2 years directly related experience working with Represented Adults
Equivalencies
- Master of Social Work, no experience required.
- Related diploma and 3 years related experience.
- Related certificate and 4 years related experience.
Other Requirements
- Experience working with the vulnerable sector.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Cover letter demonstrating how your education and experience relate to this role.
Assets
- Experience working in a front‑line case management role (e.g., income support, AISH, PDD, Children’s Services, etc.).
- Experience interacting with community service providers, health providers, the justice system and other government agencies.
- Experience working with vulnerable adults such as persons with dementia, severe and persistent psychiatric disorders, developmental disabilities, and acquired brain injury.
- Experience providing service delivery in accordance with the Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act , the Personal Directives Act or the Mental Health Act , and associated regulations and policies.
- Experience working with court procedures.
Notes
Hours of work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Final candidates will be required to undergo security screening. Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate.
