Job Description

Day-to-Day:

Analyse customer specs and design protection & control panels (SLDs, schematics, wiring, logic diagrams, BOMs)

Develop and execute relay test plans for protection systems

Create relay setting files based on logic diagrams and protection studies

Perform secondary injection testing and simulate control schemes (transfer, synchronising, auto-restoration)

Upload and configure relay settings, including communication setup (IEC 61850)

Conduct in-house and on-site testing and commissioning

Provide field support at customer sites (Canada & US travel)

Take ownership of assigned projects with minimal oversight

Support team through training, peer reviews, and design assistance

Skills and Requirements

University degree or college diploma in Electrical Engineering

5+ years of experience in relay testing and creating setting files for multi-function relays

Strong knowledge of power systems, protection schemes, and communication applications

Experience creating factory/site test procedures and commissioning protection panels

Deep understanding of protection principles (Distance, Line Differential, Transformer Differential, Bus, Feeder, Generator, Motor)

Experience with protection & control designs (schematics, logic diagrams, wiring, BOMs)

Ability to travel up to 25% across Canada and the US

Strong communication skills and ability to work in team-based, multicultural environments

Experience with turnkey Protection & Control projects

Hands-on experience with secondary injection test sets (Omicron, Doble, Megger)

Familiarity with utility standards and documentation procedures

Exposure to IEC 61850 communication protocols

Experience with GE Digital Energy or third-party relay products

Interdisciplinary experience (metering, communications, substation automation, integration)
