The City of Swift Current is accepting applications for non-permanent, casual Lead Recreation Programmer in the Community Services Department. Under the direct supervision of the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Lead Recreation Programmer is responsible for supports recreation program planning and delivery under the direction of the Community Recreation Coordinator. This position actively participates in programs with staff and participants while assisting with lesson planning, supply coordination, and program development.
ABOUT THIS POSITION
This role is suited to an energetic, organized, and creative individual who enjoys working directly with children and youth. The successful candidate will help ensure programs are well planned, safe, inclusive, and successful. The position can be physically demanding and requires active participation in games, sports, outdoor activities, and the lifting and moving of equipment and supplies.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Program Planning & Coordination
Support the planning and development of recreation programs (e.g., Active Play, Fun Day, Nature Play, Welcome to Recreation) by creating and delivering lesson plans in collaboration with the Recreation Supervisor.
Ensure supplies, equipment, and materials are available and prepared for program delivery.
Maintain accurate program records, attendance, and documentation as required. Prepare and submit program updates and reports as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant training is considered an asset, including High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development, SPRA Play Leadership, or similar certifications in recreation, early childhood development, or youth programming.
Experience working with children and youth in recreation, sport,
education, or community settings.
Experience planning and leading recreational activities and programs is considered an asset.
Solid leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
Creative, energetic, and enthusiastic approach to recreation programming.
Physical ability to actively participate in recreation activities and lift/move equipment as required.
Knowledge of program safety practices and risk management procedures.
First Aid/CPR certification is required.
Applicants must submit a vulnerable sector check upon being hired.
Respect in Sport or Respect in the Workplace certification is required.
Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
Hours of Work
This is a casual, part-time, grant-funded position with no guarantee of hours.
Scheduling is flexible and based on program and operational requirements; however, a typical work week may consist of 6–12 hours, primarily in the late afternoon, evening, and occasionally on weekends and typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
