Humans of HR

Langley

Humans of HR is an upcoming boutique recruitment agency in Vancouver and is very quickly becoming the go-to agency for hiring and placement of skilled corporate professionals. Combined with our vast network and extraordinary customer-centric approach, we are the obvious choice in helping you find your next home.

The Chance

Our client is expanding its physical operations and is looking for an experienced HR leader to strengthen the connection between People & Culture and its distribution network.

The Director of HR Business Partners - Distribution Centres will work closely with operational leadership and oversee the HR partnership supporting a workforce that operates across complex, high-volume environments.

This is a strong fit for someone who understands that operational HR looks very different from a corporate office environment. The workforce may include technical, skilled, hourly and shift-based employees, with different scheduling, compensation and workforce considerations across locations. Experience from sectors such as energy, industrial services, logistics, manufacturing, transportation, construction or large-scale operations would translate particularly well.

What You'll Be Responsible For

- Provide senior HR leadership to the organization's distribution and operational teams.
- Lead a group of HR professionals supporting multiple operational leaders and locations.
- Establish a strong HR presence within the operational leadership community.
- Work with site leaders to anticipate staffing, retention and employee-relations challenges.
- Provide practical guidance on performance, conduct, attendance and workplace matters.
- Help leaders manage the realities of shift work, workforce availability and changing operational requirements.
- Support the people side of new facilities,

expansion initiatives and changes to operating structures.
- Review workforce trends and identify areas where leadership intervention is required.
- Partner with Compensation and other specialist teams on pay practices and workforce programs.
- Help operational leaders become stronger, more consistent people managers.
- Establish appropriate standards across locations while allowing individual sites to respond to their own operating realities.
- Participate in senior operational planning and provide a people perspective on business decisions.
- Escalate significant workforce risks and recommend practical solutions to senior leadership.

What We're Looking For

- 12-15+ years of progressive HR experience, with significant exposure to operational or frontline workforces.
- Experience in an industrial, energy, logistics, manufacturing, construction, transportation, facilities or comparable workplace.
- Previous experience leading HR teams, HR managers or senior HR professionals.
- Strong employee-relations background and confidence handling sensitive workplace issues.
- Experience supporting hourly, shift-based or geographically dispersed employees.
- Comfortable working alongside operational leaders and spending time in active operating environments.
- Robust understanding of workforce planning and the practical challenges associated with scaling physical operations.

- Ability to balance consistency with the realities of different sites and employee groups.
- Sound judgment and the ability to deal with issues directly and constructively.
- Strong leadership presence without relying heavily on hierarchy or process.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline is preferred.

- A Different Kind of HR Leadership Role

This opportunity will appeal to someone who would rather walk a site than spend their entire week in a boardroom. You understand that the best HR solutions have to work for the people actually operating the business. You may have built your career in oil & gas, industrial operations, logistics, manufacturing, construction or another workforce-intensive environment. You know how quickly an employee issue can become an operational issue, and you know how important it is for HR to be close to the business. The organization is growing quickly, so this role requires someone who can bring structure without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.

You should be comfortable entering an unfamiliar environment, asking questions, understanding how things really work and then deciding what needs to change.

Compensation & Benefits

- Competitive base salary
- Annual incentive program
- Equity participation
- RRSP matching
- Comprehensive benefits
- Vacation entitlement
- Hybrid working environment
- Opportunity to influence the development of a growing operational HR function

At Humans of HR, we support the development and growth of our candidates to reach their full potential. If you are thinking about your next career move and the above role is just the right fit, please send us your resume along with a cover letter in confidence and one of our consultants will be in touch for a confidential discussion.
