Job Summary
On The Way Acres is a scenic agritourism destination combining overnight guest stays, public farm events, and diverse property features. We are seeking a versatile, proactive Farm Hospitality & Property Caretaker to oversee the day-to-day guest experience, manage property preservation, keep the farm workshop organized, and lead specialized farm development projects.
This role is split into two core areas: 50% Property Stewardship & Hospitality Operations and 50% Value-Add Farm Projects (such as artisanal food creation, carpentry, or workshop builds).
Core Responsibilities
1. Hospitality & Guest Relations (Approx. 25% of Hours)
Coordinate on-site preparations for farm stay guests, educational workshops, and tour groups.
Manage accommodation changeovers: strip, wash, dry, and remake linens to strict hospitality standards.
Assemble and place guest welcome packages prior to arrival.
Monitor, clean, and re-stock guest amenities, housekeeping supplies, and household essentials.
2. Property Stewardship & Maintenance (Approx. 25% of Hours)
Provide seasonal property upkeep (Note: A separate full-time team member handles grass cutting).
Warm Seasons: Handle watering and care of gardens, flowerbeds, and specialized crop zones.
Cold Seasons:
Manage snow removal from walkways and operate equipment to groom the farm’s trail network.
Maintain complete organization of the farm shop, tools, and mechanical machinery.
Perform minor facility repairs, routine equipment checks, and light structural maintenance.
Maintain continuous communication with General Manager Owen Lawrence regarding supply inventory and shop needs.
3. Value-Add Farm Development Projects (Approx. 40% of Hours)
Dedicate roughly half of weekly working hours to self-guided projects that directly benefit the farm’s product lines or infrastructure.
Option A (Culinary/Artisanal): Create farm-to-table products for seasonal markets, including baking or small-batch food goods.
Option B (Workshop/Trade): Utilize the farm shop to construct assets like honey bee hives, agricultural structures, or rustic farm merchandise.
Option C (Other): Tell us about your skill set and how it will blend with our vision.
4. Asset Protection & Inventory Control (Approx 10% or Hours)
Loss Prevention & Accountability: Act as the primary on-site eyes and ears to secure the property.
Ensure all workshop bays, equipment sheds,
and guest units are properly locked and secured at the end of each shift.
Logistical Tracking: Implement a simple sign-out or tracking system for high-value farm tools and event assets to monitor who is using them.
Proactive Stock Management: Conduct a weekly inventory audit of both guest amenities (linens, toiletries, welcome pack items) and critical shop supplies.
Pre-emptive Reordering: Report low stock levels directly to General Manager Owen Lawrence before items run out, ensuring the farm is never caught unprepared for a guest arrival or maintenance task.
Key Requirements & Skills
Diverse Skill Set: Background in hospitality, property caretaking, light carpentry, or a mechanical trade.
Self-Driven & Creative: Ability to plan and work independently on long-term creative or fabrication projects.
Physical Stamina: Capable of working outdoors in changing Ontario weather conditions (snow, heat) and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Solid Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate clearly with management and provide a warm welcome to guests.
Logistical Flexibility: Availability to adjust weekday schedules to accommodate occasional Saturday events, festivals, or group tours.
Terms of Employment
Probationary Period: Position begins with a six (6) month probationary trial.
Starting Wage: $25.00 per hour.
Future Growth: Performance-based salary increases and health/wellness benefits will be reviewed and discussed upon successful completion of the 6-month probation period.
