Looking for a new Site Superintendent to lead a major Gym project in Edmonton
About Our Client
The organisation is a well known ICI focused General Contractor with projects in both Ontario and Alberta. They specialise in Light industrial, Recreational and Retail new build and renovation projects.
Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to lead the construction and renovation of a 120,000 sq. ft. gym facility in Edmonton. The successful candidate will oversee all on-site activities, ensuring the project is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role is critical in coordinating subcontractors, managing site logistics, and maintaining strong communication with the project management team, consultants, and clients.This is a 6 month contract opportunity to bring this project to completion.
Key Responsibilities: Project Execution & Site Leadership
Manage day-to-day on-site construction activities for the gym project from mobilization to substantial completion
Supervise and coordinate all trades, subcontractors, and suppliers onsite
Develop and maintain a detailed construction schedule, ensuring milestones are achieved
Proactively identify and resolve site issues, conflicts, and delays
Health & Safety
Lead and enforce the company's health and safety program in compliance with Alberta OH&S; regulations
Conduct regular site safety meetings, hazard assessments, and inspections
Ensure all workers adhere to safety standards and site protocols
Quality Control
Ensure all work meets project specifications, codes, and quality standards
Conduct inspections and coordinate deficiency management and close-out processes
Work closely with consultants and inspectors to ensure compliance
Coordination & Communication
Collaborate with Project Managers on budgeting, procurement, and scheduling
Maintain clear communication with clients, consultants, and stakeholders
Lead site meetings and provide regular progress updates and reports
Logistics & Documentation
Oversee site logistics, material deliveries, equipment usage, and site organisation
Maintain accurate site records including daily reports, manpower tracking, and progress updates
Assist in reviewing shop drawings and coordinating RFIs

The Successful Applicant
Qualifications & Experience: Required
Minimum 5+ years of experience in ICI construction, with at least 3+ years as a Superintendent
Proven experience managing mid-to-large scale recent build and renovation projects ($10M-$30M)
Experience with large-format commercial facilities (fitness centers, recreation, retail, or light industrial projects preferred)
Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and trade coordination
Extensive knowledge of Alberta building codes and safety regulations
Skills & Competencies
Strong leadership and team management abilities
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
Effective communication and stakeholder management
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam)
Certifications (Preferred)
Gold Seal Certification (GSC)
CSTS, First Aid, and other safety certifications
Trade certification or construction-related diploma/degree
