How you’ll make a difference: Obtain and assess all relevant information regarding an employee’s illness or injury from the appropriate medical providers until we have a safe and successful return to work.
The Disability Advisor is required to determine appropriate support required as well as appropriate modified work to be offered to that employee on the day notified of illness/injury in support of our duty to accommodate.
Work closely with employees, supervisors and health professionals to ensure that employees are receiving the care, treatment and support needed.
Maintain a caseload and all incoming documentation to clients on short-term, non-complex cases and managing routine inquiries or emerging issues.
Build and establish trust with clients quickly and work collaboratively
Educate employees and leaders in the process of short-term leave




Negotiate modified work with employees and leaders, as necessary
Assess when/if appropriate to transfer claims for more complex management
Arrange for any equipment or at home supports for employees
Act as back up for ergonomic assessments and the Health, Safety and Environmental Coordinator
Contact employees per requests of leaders to offer support
Track and update various spreadsheets and databases by connecting with business areas and disability managers
Act as a contact for Canada Life to send letters and documentation and ensure that pertinent information is forwarded to the Disability Manager or Total Compensation
Your experience and skills: Undergraduate Degree/Diploma, preferable in Social Sciences, Rehabilitation or related degree.
Considerable experience in caseload management and/or bodily injury insurance claims.
At least 3 years of experience in disability management, a claims environment, insurance, rehabilitation or other related field.
Candidates must be able to work independently in a high-volume work environment.
Demonstrated exceptional communication and investigation skills are required.
Solid proven decision-making skills.
Familiarity with medical or rehabilitative terminology is an asset.
Ability to build internal and external stakeholder relationships.
Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills are required for success in the role.
Ability to deal with all customers (internal/external) in friendly and diplomatic manner with the utmost respect for confidentiality.
Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) is required.




Some experience in interpretation/application of policy and/or legislation.
Demonstrated time management, team skills and decision-making ability.

Salary: $61,080.00 to $71,812.00 per annum (Salary Grade 8)
Successful candidate must reside in Alberta and be able to work in person from our Edmonton downtown office as required.
This position is temporary for a period of up to one year with the possibility of extension or permanency.
Final candidates are required to undergo a security clearance as a condition of employment.
