12-month contract Machine Learning Specialist role with a large public sector organization

Initial 12-month long contract with a large public sector client

Remote anywhere in Canada with occasional work in Edmonton

What & Why
Our client is seeking a Machine Learning Specialist to support the design and delivery of analytical data products and services that enable the organization to better leverage its data assets. This is an expert-level, hands‑on role where you will develop ML models, apply AI to complex data science problems, build analytics products, and coach cross‑functional teams on the appropriate and ethical application of machine learning. You will work directly with internal clients and external stakeholders to understand their analytics needs, and translate those needs into evidence‑based data products that drive better policy and public services. The role spans ML model development, statistical analysis, data engineering, de‑identification and synthetic data, and full‑stack AI application support, making it one of the more diverse and meaningful data science roles available in the public sector.

Our client is a large public sector organization with a mandate to advance data‑driven decision‑making across government. Their data and analytics team uses a centralized approach to information governance, enabling enhanced data access, collaboration, and innovation across the organization. The team sits at the heart of the data strategy, delivering high‑quality analytical modelling, AI development, and data products. They work in a collaborative,



multi‑vendor environment and are actively investing in building ML capability and data literacy across the organization.

You
You will bring the following experience and capabilities:

6+ years of hands‑on experience with statistical and computer languages including R, Python, and SQL

6+ years of experience building analytical and quantitative analysis models

6+ years of experience preparing data for prescriptive and predictive modelling

6+ years of experience with data analytics and data science approaches including complex statistical modelling

6+ years of experience applying AI or Machine Learning to real‑world problems such as anomaly detection, predictive monitoring, or AI‑assisted data transformation

Strong knowledge of statistical classification techniques including k‑means and hierarchical clustering, partition trees, and logistic regression

Ability to work within privacy legislation and provide ethical and practical guidance on ML implementation

Nice to Have

Experience with data sharing, de‑identification, synthetic data creation, metadata, and data quality frameworks

Experience combining raw data from diverse sources within and across domains

Experience preparing visualizations, dashboards, and analytical models for stakeholder audiences

Familiarity with statistical and data mining techniques applied to key business issues

Prior experience working with large government datasets

Compensation
This role pays between $95-105 per hour.
