Job Information Join the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) as a Relief Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Long Term Care/ Extended Care Unit at Liwegoati Building-YK Region in Yellowknife. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents by providing compassionate, client-centered care in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Our 12-bed Extended Care Unit provides long-term, respite, and palliative care for adults living with chronic illnesses, physical frailty, or cognitive impairment. As part of a dedicated interdisciplinary team, you will deliver culturally safe nursing care that supports residents' physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and daily living needs while promoting dignity, comfort, and quality of life every day.
Reporting to the Manager, Extended Care Unit, you will work alongside Registered Nurses and other members of the health care team to provide direct nursing care,
monitor resident health, support families, and contribute to a safe and respectful care environment. You may also be assigned to other nursing units within Stanton Territorial Hospital based on operational needs and within the scope of Licensed Practical Nursing practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to long-term care, respite, and palliative care residents.
- Assess, plan, implement, document, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
- Monitor residents' health status and perform ongoing nursing assessments.
- Administer non-narcotic medications within the Licensed Practical Nurse scope of practice.
- Support resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Key Qualifications
- Knowledge of the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Ability to provide protected, compassionate, and ethical nursing care in a long-term care environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with residents, families, and members of the health care team.
- Knowledge of biological, physical, and behavioural sciences relevant to practical nursing practice.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
A Licensed Practical Nursing Diploma. Experience in a long-term care setting required.
