Maternal Child Health Worker
The George Gordon First Nation is seeking a positive, mature candidate to fill the position of Maternal Child Health. The successful candidate will be under the supervision of the Director of Health Services to assist community families, develop their parenting skills, access resources in and out of the community, and provide methods of raising healthy babies and young children in an environment of safety, growth, and learning.

Duties & Responsibilities

Implement support services which include screening and assessment of pregnant women and new parents to assess family needs

Keeping woman informed about family planning and sexual reproductive medical services.

Teaching and supporting pregnant women to maintain a healthier lifestyle

Utilizing new ways to improve the health delivery services for mothers and their children. This involves not only using applied research methods but also utilizing traditional parenting methods.

Introducing and implementing comprehensive screening and assessment tools which are crucial for early identification and referral of pregnant women and families with young children who may be at risk of poor health outcomes.

Providing support service linkages and education as well as resources needed to reduce high risk behaviors and the promotion of healthy birth outcomes once risk factors have been identified.

Completing the initial individual/family assessment. Identifying individual/family strengths and assets.





Providing outreach services and informing the community about matters of maternal child health and social services and their resources.

Evaluating the individual/family service plan on a regular basis, adjusting based on the family’s needs and desired outcomes, and facilitating referrals when necessary.

Tracking family progress in accomplishing the goals developed in partnership with them, by reviewing goals with the family and documenting achievements.

Doing follow-up phone calls to agencies in respect to the client’s treatment plans, medical appointments or referrals or any other case management processes.

Skills and Qualifications

Diploma or Certificate in Early Childhood Education, Youth Care, Addictions and/or Community Development or a combination of experience and education.

Ability to build and maintain a helpful professional relationship

Ability to work independently and in a team workplace

Strong computer skills.

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Ability to promote an alcohol and drug free lifestyle

Willing to submit background checks (CPIC & vulnerable)

Current Saskatchewan Class 5 license

Salary will be based on experience, training, and education.
