About the role :
The Safety, Health and Environment Manager (SHE Manager) ensures the highest standards of Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) compliance to deliver best in class results. The position drives a proactive safety culture, oversees legal and operational compliance, and leads initiatives to maintain, upgrade, and optimize site systems and processes. The role promotes environmental and circular economy principles, embedding sustainability into the site's operations and decision-making processes. The SHE Manager is the local SHE Pillar owner of the BC Operating System and is a member of the Site Management Team.

Key responsibilities include :
Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Leadership
Lead the design and continuous improvement of local SHE management systems aligned with Barry Callebaut and regulatory requirements regarding safety, environment and process safety.

Serve as a primary contact and lead for safety and environmental incident management processes, including notification, investigation, case management and follow up actions.

Own the local SHE Pillar role in the BC Operating System: elevates safety and environmental awareness and capability of the core team,



using shift/daily/weekly/monthly management systems to review leading and lagging indicators and promote actions to close gaps.

Conduct SHE Gemba Walks, Behavior Observation Safety, Audits and Inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective and preventive actions and implement follow up assessments.

Provide guidance to employees, contractors and visitors on health and safety requirements, ensuring compliance with Barry Callebaut standards and legal regulations.

Coordinate the adherence to the BC Loss Prevention Standard, whose aim is to protect human life, the environment, and business continuity, focusing on risks from fire, explosion, and natural hazards.

Lead local management in the development, testing and maintenance of the Emergency Response Plan.

Drive a positive SHE culture through initiatives such as embedding the 10 BC Life Saving Principles, Behavior Observation Safety, Safety and Environmental Gemba Walks and training.

Coach and develop the local Safety Ambassadors to strengthen local engagement.

Monitor and report on SHE KPIs and targets via the SHE Scorecard

Project Management
Ensure SHE relevant permits are and remain in compliance with legal requirements at site level.

Collect and manage a longlist of SHE related investment initiatives for the site.

Ensure compliance with external workforce regarding legal and operational requirements.

Performance and Compliance
Measure, analyze, and drive SHE performance.

Ensure legal compliance and adherence to Barry Callebaut standards across all site operations.

Plan and organize all departmental activities to achieve efficiency objectives while

About you
Master's degree in science or engineering or equivalent industrial experience





5 to 10 years’ experience in a factory-based role: Safety, Health or Environment role, Operations, Continuous Improvement, Process Improvement or Quality

Certifications and qualifications in safety management as required by local regulatory authorities

Understanding of the requirements of relevant standard such as ISO 14001; ISO 45001 or OSHSAS 18001 is a plus

Knowledge of Circular Economy principles

Experience of Lean/TPM tools and ways of working a plus

Bilingual (advance level in French and English) to interact with colleagues outside Canada.

Experience with SHE management systems and risk management

Experience with influencing behavioral change in a team/department

Excel in coaching, training and influencing skills

Resilient and capable of taking difficult decisions

Transversal leader and excellent stakeholder manager

Strong analytical skills, ability to translate data into action and follow through
