We are currently seeking experienced and compassionate Child and Youth Workers (CYWs) to provide staffing support within foster homes, group care settings, and community-based programs.
Position Summary
The Child and Youth Worker will provide direct support, supervision, and care to children and youth with diverse needs. Successful candidates will support the development of emotional regulation, life skills, community participation, positive relationships, and personal growth while maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
CYWs will work collaboratively with foster caregivers, agency teams, families, and community partners to ensure the individual needs of each child and youth are met.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide trauma-informed and strengths-based support to children and youth in care.
• Provide supervision and assistance within foster homes, residential settings,
and community programs.
• Support children and youth with emotional regulation, behavioural needs, and crisis situations.
• Implement individualized support strategies and care plans.
• Assist with daily living skills, routines, and community integration.
• Promote positive relationships, independence, confidence, and social development.
• Support recreational, educational, and community activities.
• Maintain qualified boundaries and confidentiality at all times.
• Complete required documentation, reports, and incident reporting.
• Respond appropriately to behavioural escalations using approved crisis intervention techniques.
• Work collaboratively with foster caregivers, case managers, and other professionals.
Qualifications and Requirements
Successful applicants must have:
• Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care(preferred), Social Work, Social Service Work, Psychology, Developmental Services, Behavioural Sciences, or a related field.
• Minimum experience supporting children, youth, and/or individuals with complex needs.
• Valid Vulnerable Sector / Broad Record Check.
• Annual Offence Declaration (as required).
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.
• Valid Ontario G-Class Driver's Licence.
• Proof of automobile insurance with up to $2,000,000 third-party liability coverage.
• Successful completion of Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB) training.
• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
• Qualified references.
• Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical practice.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in foster care, residential care, child welfare, developmental services, mental health, or community services.
• Experience supporting youth with behavioural challenges, trauma histories, or complex needs.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, de-escalation techniques, and culturally responsive approaches.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and crisis management skills.
