About the Role:
The Youth Center Worker supports youth through strong relationship development while facilitating and promoting activities and programs designed to help youth build the skills necessary to manage the challenges they face. This role models positive behaviours, encourage skill development in sports and arts, assist with conflict resolution, facilitate peer to peer relationship building, promote a culture of inclusion and connect youth to resources and agencies when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for planning and implementing activities for youth both onsite and offsite, ensuring programs start and finish on time.
- Supervise youth during programming, manage behavior in accordance with YMCA policies.
- Connect and build relationships with youth and determine the necessary need and support by connecting them to agencies and programs available.
- Maintains knowledge of relevant services and community resources.
- Maintains a safe and supportive environment for all by following YMCA Health Safety Child Protection and Emergency policies and procedures.
- Ensure administrative duties related to program are accurately and effectively completed.
- Communicate effectively with other staff and volunteers including documentation of issues, critical incidents, equipment/maintenance issues and daily review of staff communication log.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 16+ years of age.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is an asset.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention Certification an asset.
- Previous youth work/mentorship or related experience.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office and other forms of technology effectively.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and team skills.
- Intermediate (Standard) First Aid & CPR-C.
- Able to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable sector check.
- Flexible work schedule – including days, evenings, and weekends.
