This posting is for candidates who wish to be placed on the Occasional list to be available for casual work as a Registered Early Childhood Educator. NEW this year the UCDSB is accepting applications to the occasional list continually through the school year. Interviews will be held on a monthly basis. Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Principal, the Designated Early Childhood Educator will be responsible, in collaboration and partnership with the classroom teacher, to help students learn and grow through the implementation and set up of developmentally appropriate activities for students in the ELP kindergarten. They will work in partnership with the teaching team to listen, to respond and to provide guidance, feedback and/or resource supports as deemed appropriate to the families.
Education:
University degree in early child development or a 2 year Post secondary diploma in Early Childhood Education. Registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators. Minimum of 2-3 years recent experience in related child care required with current working knowledge of child development. Note -for some schools the position maybe designated bilingual and therefore working knowledge of the French language is required.
Skills Required:
· Thorough understanding of early child development and knowledge of elementary school operations
· Demonstrate effective and ongoing professional communication with parents/guardians, staff and students
· Ability to use tact, discretion and good judgement.
· Demonstrated ability to remain calm and non-confrontational under pressure
· Well developed problem solving and conflict resolution skills
· Ability to work with minimum supervision within a multicultural environment and can respect and work with a diverse range of students and families of all backgrounds and abilities
· Demonstrates sensitivity to individual needs of students in a multi ethnic and multilingual environment
· Demonstrates initiative and creativity
· Ability to model healthy adult-child relationship and positive discipline
· Adapts well to changing demands
· Well developed computer literacy skills
· Works independently and as a member of a team
· Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with colleagues
· Keep current with early childhood practices
· High degree of confidentiality Is essential
· FIRST Aid, CPR
