This position reports directly to the Waterworks Managers. Preference will be given to candidates who possess water or wastewater certification or experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and associated equipment.
- Perform skilled work to control treatment processes along with detailed sampling, monitoring & analysis of water, wastewater, and processing streams.
- Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection System Maintenance; maintenance of Water and Wastewater Treatment infrastructure including associated equipment, etc.
- Utility Services Operations: scheduled meter services, cross connection control, residential supply management, etc.
- Knowledgeable in the use of computers and computer programs.
- The successful candidate must work rotational, non-standard hours, including shift work, nights, evenings, and weekends, as well as stand-by and callouts.
Experience:
- Trade and Secondary Education Equivalencies may be considered.
- Preference will be given to individuals with experience and/or education in the water/wastewater fields or plant operations.
- The position includes physical demands, including but not limited to: a large number of stairs, tank cleaning, and the use of a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent as determined by Saskatchewan Education
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan driver’s license
- Possess and maintain R.C.M.P. security clearance
- Be able to obtain and maintain a valid Saskatchewan Fireman’s Boiler Certificate
- Be able to obtain and maintain valid SCBA training, First Aid, CPR, SCOT/WHMIS, Air Brakes, OH&S; levels 1 & 2, SCSA, Confined Space, and H2S Alive Certificates.
Preferred:
- Candidates with certification in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection.
- A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Journeyperson Millwright, Plumber, Electrician or Instrumentation Technologist.
Hours of work: Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with rotating weekend and on-call shifts.
