Vancouver Talmud Torah is currently seeking a Full-time (1.0 FTE) Director of Learning & Innovation.Vancouver Talmud Torah is an Early Childhood to Grade 7 Jewish community day school fostering Jewish identity and literacy with a solid emphasis on producing students who will engage the world through Jewish values. We are Western Canada's largest Jewish community day school and have more than 100 years of experiencePosition SummaryThe Director of Learning and Innovation (DLI) reports directly to the Head of School and is responsible for supporting the School's dynamic, innovative, and rigorous curriculum and programming, from Early Childhood through to Grade 7. Through the introduction of new programs and initiatives, such as ISTEAM and Plant-based learning, the DLI, in collaboration with the leadership team, provides support and direction to faculty in the areas of instructional and assessment practices, and development. As a member of the Leadership Team, the DLI promotes the School's mission, and values, and is responsible for providing leadership in the development of curriculum and programs, the promotion of best practices, and the continued strengthening of the School. Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstructional LeadershipProvides support and direction to General and Judaic Studies faculty in the areas of pedagogy, instructional and assessment practices, and curriculum design and developmentMaintains awareness, and supports the introduction at the School,
of current trends in 21st century teaching and learningMentors and supports faculty around the development of best practices; shares current theoriesand effective strategies for instructional improvement and enhancement of student performancePlans and participates in meaningful professional development, with the purpose of improving school culture, best teaching practice and academic achievementAssists with continuing demands required for CAIS and ministry accreditationPerforms instructional duties as necessaryWorks with and mentors the coordinators to further integration efforts, ISTEAM (ADST)/Plant based learning, and support of Judaics and General studies faculty.Teaches ISTEAM/Plant based learning and mentors teachers in learning how to incorporate ISTEAM/Plant based learning into their teachingOversees the Coordinator of ISTEAM to do the above work.Focuses on helping Judaic and General studies teacher integrate their curriculum with one anotherWorks with the leadership team to implement appropriate practices and review with regards to report cards and assessmentSupervises the work of various coordinators, as determined annually by the Head of School, to ensure the strategic goals of the school are being met.Educational ManagementLeads and facilitates presentations and workshops pertaining to learning and innovationEnsures the School's standards,
policies and procedures are met; oversees follow throughand completion of tasksPlans overall professional development days and lunch and learnsManages and oversees school subscriptions and teacher budgetsStrategic PlanningCollaborates with the Leadership Team to develop and implement the School's strategic plan with a focus on innovation and ISTEAMWith the leadership team, ensures continuous planning and implementation of curricula and update of assessment practices that foster creative and critical thinkingWorks with the HOS and leadership on initiatives such as the strategic plan and Mission, Vision and Values rework.Committee ParticipationSupports Leadership team to ensure ongoing planning and support of key academic initiatives, iSTEAM, professional development planning, assessment, etc.Participates in School and external (ex.
