We are seeking an Animal Care Lead who is passionate about animal welfare, hands-on, and excited to join a supportive, collaborative team.Position Summary:The Animal Care Lead is a senior, hands-on role responsible for overseeing daily animal care operations, supervising staff and volunteers during shifts, and ensuring our donkeys receive the highest standards of care. You will assist with hoof trimming procedures, basic medical treatments, support barn, paddock, and pasture maintenance, and help train volunteers, operate sanctuary equipment, including tractors, for feeding, pasture management, and maintenance tasks. Training will be provided for candidates without prior experience.
Your guidance and presence will help maintain a protected, organized, and compassionate environment for both animals and people. No two days are the same: one day may involve hands-on care, while another may focus on supervising volunteers, supporting outreach events, or assisting with special projects.Who We're Looking For:We're seeking someone with a genuine passion for animal welfare and a hands-on, collaborative approach. You should be calm, confident, and professional around animals, staff, volunteers, and the public. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential, as is the ability to delegate and supervise effectively. While prior equine experience is helpful, we are happy to train candidates who are eager to learn and committed to the sanctuary's mission. You should be physically comfortable with lifting, bending, and performing manual labor outdoors, and observant and proactive in noticing changes in animal behavior or health.
