Job Title: Senior Solutions Designer
Location: Toronto, ON/Onsite
Duration: 120 business days with possible extension

Pay Rate: CAD $95/hr - $100/hr
Must have:
- 10+ years of experience in solution design, backend development, implementation, and maintenance of large, complex enterprise applications.
- 10+ years of experience with J2EE/JEE integration and development involving Oracle Siebel, IBM Cúram, Microsoft Dynamics, or other COTS CRM systems.
- Strong experience with J2EE/Java EE architecture and designing enterprise-level, n-tier web-based applications.
- 10+ years of hands‑on experience with backend technologies including REST Web Services, JPA, Hibernate, SQL, and PL/SQL.
- Strong expertise in enterprise integration architecture, integration patterns, middleware, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), and integration best practices.
- In‑depth experience with Spring Framework, particularly Spring Integration, for designing and implementing integration solutions.
- Hands‑on experience with IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE), IBM Integration Bus (IIB), MuleSoft, or comparable enterprise integration platforms.
- Strong understanding and hands‑on experience with REST, JMS, AMQP, APIs, message queues, middleware, and cloud‑based integration solutions, particularly within Azure environments.
- Experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases, data modelling, SQL, and PL/SQL.
- Hands‑on experience with Unix/Linux, Shell Scripting, Ant scripts, JavaScript, XML/XSD, XSL/XSLT, XQuery, XPath, and HTML5.
- Experience using XSLT/XQuery/XPath transformation capabilities, including hands‑on experience with Oxygen XML Editor or another XSLT IDE for developing and debugging XSL transformations.
- Experience with source code management tools such as Subversion (SVN), CVS, Git, or equivalent.
- Robust experience designing detailed functional and technical requirements, use cases, UML models, and solution specifications based on business requirements.
- Experience with system analysis, requirements gathering, solution prototyping, technical evaluation, performance and capacity assessment, and enterprise solution design.
- Experience designing, planning, migrating, implementing, and sustaining large, complex,
highly available, mission‑critical applications.
- Experience working with Enterprise Architecture within the Ontario Public Service (OPS), including adherence to OPS standards, documentation artifacts, templates, policies, and I⁢ practices.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Design hosting and technology solutions based on client business requirements, enterprise standards, policies, best practices, security requirements, and cost models.
- Lead the design and development of large, complex, highly available, mission‑critical enterprise applications and integration solutions.
- Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into scalable, secure, maintainable, and cost‑effective solution architectures.
- Design and implement backend solutions using J2EE/JEE, REST Web Services, JPA, Hibernate, SQL, and PL/SQL.
- Develop enterprise integration solutions using Spring Integration, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), middleware, APIs, message queues, and integration patterns.
- Design and develop integration solutions using IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE), IBM Integration Bus (IIB), MuleSoft, or comparable enterprise integration technologies.
- Design integration solutions leveraging REST, JMS, AMQP, APIs, and messaging technologies within Azure and cloud‑based integration environments.
- Design and implement n‑tier web‑based applications using Java/J2EE, Unix/Linux, Shell Scripting, JavaScript, XML/XSD, XSLT, XQuery, XPath, and HTML5.
- Develop and troubleshoot XML/XSLT transformations using XSLT/XQuery/XPath and appropriate IDE tools such as Oxygen XML Editor.
- Define and document functional and technical requirements, solution specifications, integration designs, use cases, UML models, and technical architecture documentation.
- Conduct system analysis, evaluate existing technology environments, assess system performance and capacity,
and recommend improvements, expansion, modernization, or replacement strategies.
- Gather and analyze client business requirements, enterprise I⁢ mandates, technology strategies, standards, and environmental constraints to develop appropriate solutions.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, industry trends, and new products to determine their applicability to current and future client technology requirements.
- Develop technical specifications and provide guidance for installation, configuration, testing, performance, recovery, and implementation of integrated multi‑service systems.
- Participate in solution prototyping and demonstrations for clients, senior management, technical teams, and business stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, infrastructure, development, security, business, and project teams to ensure solution designs align with enterprise standards and project objectives.
- Provide technical advice and recommendations regarding short‑and long‑term solution development, modernization, integration, and technology strategies.
- Support planning, migration, implementation, and transition activities for large‑scale technology and application initiatives.
- Conduct cost‑benefit analysis and assess technical feasibility, risks, performance, scalability, capacity, and operational impacts of proposed solutions.
- Ensure solution designs comply with OPS Enterprise Architecture standards, I⁢ policies, security requirements, documentation standards, and prescribed architecture artifacts and templates.
- Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, architecture diagrams, design specifications, decision records, and implementation documentation.
- Facilitate technical discussions and workshops with business stakeholders, solution teams, developers, infrastructure teams, and senior management.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to project teams while ensuring deliverables are completed within established timelines and quality standards.
- Apply strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, negotiation, and decision‑making skills throughout the solution design and implementation lifecycle.
