Overview

NorthSask Special Needs (NSN) is looking for a compassionate Outreach and Prevention Worker to join our team in La Ronge, Saskatchewan. This role involves providing crucial support to individuals with intellectual disabilities and co-occurring disorders. The successful candidate will play a vital role in addressing complex, person-centered needs and fostering a positive environment for clients facing mental health and/or addictions challenges.

Responsibilities

- Provide brief counselling to individuals about mental health and related issues.
- Create a safe and welcoming environment for client interactions.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to implement and review outreach and prevention policies.
- Work closely with community agencies for comprehensive client support.
- Provide community education on mental health.
- Make referrals for services required by clients.
- Conduct complete mental health assessments for clients.
- Consult with La Ronge Mental Health and Addiction Services for clinical support and training.




- Provide direction to NSN programs, ensuring clients receive necessary support.
- Support clients at risk of service disruption, receiving in-patient mental health services.
- Contribute to program committee meetings as outlined in the CLSD Contract.

Qualifications

- Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience.
- Prior experience in a First Nations health or treatment center is an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Positive and skilled relationships with clients, staff and community members.
- Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
- Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
- Sensitivity and understanding.
- Knowledge of psychology and addictions.
- Patience and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
